Does anyone know what's going on with the driveshaft on the Rangers ? Mine self destructed on Dec 14 2020 and I am still waiting for the part,as my truck has been at the dealer since that time. They say it's on back order. This is insane, I had only driven that truck for 10 months. Seem as all the driveshafts are going to production, not customers.

I would call Ford Customer care. At least put it on their radar. Parts shortages are common for all brands right now.

Thank you. I just can't believe how long I've been waiting. I'm on my 4th loaner vehicle, and this one is a Ranger,so at least they are trying to keep me happy. Just really miss my truck..

Look at it this way. You get a free ride that you can put as much mileage as you want on it, no maintenance costs and your truck has no mileage put on it while this is all going on. Especially if you’re in another Ranger while you wait! Keeps the resale value up for sure!

Can you have a shop make one locally and see if the dealer /ford will help with the cost?

I was simply driving to work, and this god awful metal banging sound happened ( like a hammer to a metal pole) just so happen to do it right by the dealership ( as I work across the street from them) they pulled it to the service area and later called stating I need a new driveshaft.

I have been on back order for a driveshaft since late November 2020. I'm supposed to finally get my part allocation next week.
I had a persistent vibration at high speed and the dealer found 1) one bad rim and tire (they replaced both) not within spec as it took excessive weight to balance and 2) The driveshaft run-out was out of spec - apparently there is a 1mm spec measured at the carrier bearing; mine was measuring 3mm.

I can only put 2500 miles on each vehicle, but feel very blessed they even give me a vehicle. But you are right, no miles being put on mine, and I've avoided the winter salt. I think thery felt sorry for me lol so they gave me a Ranger,it'll keep me quiet for a month haha

I was told it must come from Ford manufacturing due to it being a warranted part.

At least it sounds like the dealer is doing all they can for you.

At this point I'd ask about a custom driveshaft from a local shop, maybe you'll get lucky.

Is this a common issue, or are the two I see here pretty random?

Loaner vehicles do have limits on mileage. Loaner vehicles are normally entered into a "DEMO" program that restricts how long they can stay in that program. After a certain amount of miles, the "demo/loaner" is taken out of the plan, and either sold as a "demo", used, or certified.

If the loaner recipient us going to be driving "a lot" of miles, its most likely the dealer would be giving them multiple loaners if needed.
