If he is pardoned, will VW get all the money back that they paid in fines because of 'Dieselgate'?
Good one!

Excessive diesel emissions are some of the most cancer causing concerns out there. They can cause lung and bladder cancer. He profited from what he did. I’m not buying “helping people out”. He spent over a million on EPA test equipment. He is not just some small time old mechanic. Just my opinion.

He also improved many drivers' fuel mileage and equipment longevity. That's a good thing.

I loved how some people are surprised about this. The EPA has rules against this and it's not just the United states. There's rules about this kind of stuff across the globe. The guy knew what he was getting himself into and it's his own fault.

He helped people break the law and harm others. He’s no different than a hacker that has equipment that siphons off money from bank accounts to then give people he knows or does business with for, some “help”. He was a professional criminal. Just because you don't agree with a law, does not mean you can break it and not have accountability to reckon with.

My friend has a moving business with 4 locations and dozens of diesel trucks. Out of his fleet he has TWO that require DEF and have the newest required emission equipment. His older stuff is way more reliable than the new stuff and he's constantly paying repair bills on the emission systems on the newest trucks he owns.

He moves a lot of NFL personnel an bought the two trucks for contracts he has with the Rams and Chargers. He's close to shutting down an retiring so he's trying to get through a few years with those trucks. He wishes he didn't buy them an just kept stopping in before CA an renting a compliant truck for the last leg.

I understand pollution is bad but I wonder what's coming out of the exhaust because of the DEF. Look at the inside of one of those tanks, that crap is corrosive and stains everything.

Just a note for DEF fluid.

It is ~35% urea and ~65% water. Basically it's fertilizer.

The end result of the reaction it has with NOx is nitrogen, water and carbon dioxide. Should there be sulfur (there always is) the end product it ammonium bisulfate salt which will grab ammonia from air/ground and turns to.. fertilizer.

And yes. Both urea and ammonium bisulfate will make white stains.

P.S. DEF (with different name, same product) is also sprayed over to stumps as fungicide to prevent spread of Heterobasidion parviporum.

I do t see that around here as often as I used to, but still all too often.
Thats annoyingly sad when people do that.
Annoying doesn’t even begin to describe it. Diesel soot is a 100% known carcinogen. Complete lack of respect for others.
