When I try to use my dash cam via OBD2 port, it switches between parking mode and continuous mode. It constantly cycles. I've tried a 2nd brand new cable and it still cycles. Has anyone experienced this with their Ranger/OBD2?

Why would you be pulling power from OBD2 connector?

I know many cams come with a plug to pull power from the odb, wouldn't think it would be causing the issue. Can you try it with the lighter socket or another source to ensure it's not the unit itself?

Do you have a bad cable? Mine is running fine set up like this.
Also, does yours have 5 minutes of run time after you shut your truck off? When set mine to shut off with the truck, it runs for 5 additional minutes before it shuts down.

Mine does the same and/or powers off entirely. It will go weeks working perfectly and then start acting up. Apparently, the Y connector port to the OEM port is not as snug of a fit as it needs to be and ever so slightly vibrates loose.

Did you remove and remount the OEM port and then place the new port in the OEM position? The OEM port is actually a module/assembly and my installer left the OEM port as-is-where-is and connected the Y connector to the front of the OEM port. Not only vibration works it loose but sometimes my shin hits it.

I tried looking for a better place to mount the OEM port but the module is pretty large for the space and having a hard time finding a suitable location.

Yes, it will run on power via the obd2 port. It works for most people but I have found reviews where it only effected Ford users.

I tried the aux cable and it works fine, it only has this problem with the OBD2 cable. I've tried two different OBD2 cables and it still doesn't work.

I've tried 2 obd2 cables from Amazon and Best Buy and it still has this problem. It's not the 5 minute shutoff, while driving it cycles to parking mode.
You have this same setup? Does your truck have auto start/stop?

Do you have the ING-3 ignition module in-line?

My Q800 pro uses a harness the piggybacks the obd2 connector. It’s called Echomaster, it has a module or something to switch power properly. Been installed since 2021 with no problem.

Here is my exact setup:
Red Tiger Dash cam - https://a.co/d/gL2VTuy

OBD II Power Adapter - https://a.co/d/h2MkufE

I have mine set to power down when the truck is shut down. When I first hooked up my camera, I had a dying battery, and my Auto S/S wasn't working. I recently had an issue with my fan clutch position sensor and that harness failing, which led to my truck being at the dealership for repairs, and I had them toss a new battery in it while they had it. Now, my Auto S/S is working, and I haven't seen any issues with my camera system being plugged into the OBD II port. The only "issue" was when they plugged my OBD II power adapter back in after the repairs, they hit the switch to always on, and it took me a day to notice that. No issues whatsoever.

Out of curiosity, are you still on your original battery?

It's a used truck, just got it last month. I haven't checked the battery but it hasn't had any symptoms of dying so far. The start/stop works normally, I even disabled it through Forscan and the dashcam still cycles while driving.

Thanks, I will look into that Cable. Does your Ranger have start/stop?
