Thanks to all of you, I now feel good about using the OBD2 port to power my dash cam.
Now my next question - where to mount it?
For me, to the right of the camera housing behind my rear view.
But I have the decorative applique(?) on my windshield.
Can I place the adhesive magnet on that? Or do I have to go further right to avoid it?
I don't want to do permanent damage to my windshield or it's appearance?
Any suggestions or experience to share?

Here's where I placed mine. At first you notice it a little but after a week or so of driving you tune it out and now I don't even think about it. You don't want to go to far up because you won't get a good sight picture of the road unless your camera head tilts which mine does.

I have a radar module mounted below the camera housing, it puts the dash cam into sleep mode so you don't drain your battery.
