Oh I think most get cold feet especially when you have time on your hands and start reading about problems like the fuel in the oil. Just break it in right and do the required maintenance and hopefully you'll have many trouble free miles with it. It is a very fun truck to drive and out of all of the ones I've had it's definitely my favorite. I'm still super impressed with the 2.3 and like a few others it's my first turbo. I liked it so much I got the 2.0 turbo in my new Jeep. I second guessed myself with my Jeep purchase several times but so far I love it and it does have a warranty which I hope to not have to use.


There are two dealers who sell extended warranties for a very reasonable price. They're both very close in price and you're better off getting it through them when it comes time. Some have been lucky and have had their dealers match the price but most cant come close. My 3 years is up towards the end of July and will most likely be getting one myself. I'll most likely get the next gen Ranger but will want to wait a couple years since it complete redesign.


These are Ford dealers and you're getting a Ford warranty not a 3rd party one.

Yea, i believe you are looking for the Perfect never breaking down vehicle. Since we know that isn't going to come along, I definitely recommend a Ranger. I used to maintain a fleet of commercial vehicles which had over 90 Ranger trucks, plus vans and class 7 and class 8 tractor trailers. The drivers beat the shxt out of the Rangers and they held up very well. It convinced me to look at Rangers when they came back in 2019. When I saw them at the 2018 LA Auto Show, I knew what I wanted. Mine will be 3 years old this April and I wouldn't change a thing. I'm very pleased with it and will keep it till the cows come home, Ha Ha. So no pressure..............

When I got my F150(used), I was forced to use some random company with horrible coverage per the lender policy.
Hopefully I can skip that BS with my ranger and I'll get these guys.

So I have a Ranger on order, and am either having second thoughts or just have too much time on my hands to research other options in more depth/detail. I don't want to get anyone offended here or play favorites, but these are MY opinions based on MY life experiences while on this planet.

Pros:
Actual "mid sized" truck (although this was considered FULL size about a decade ago)
Metal bumpers/not plastic skinned
Good HP and MPG for a truck in this class
Still an actual transmission vs some CVT garbage
Bare bones features (i don't want or like too many upgraded gadgets as my belief is: the more gadgets=the more problems)
Nice ride quality (I only was able to test ride a two year old, 20K, version and that was enough to convince me)
Price (obviously this is subjective to features and trim levels, but FORD is on average a $2,000 below to similar trim levels of others)
Looks (looks like a real truck IMHO)
Aftermarket accessories available

Cons:
Dependability (again, not trying to bash anyone, but I owned a few FORDs and a GM in the past that really burned me bad enough to strictly go Japanese for the last 20 years. All very good experiences. Again...MY EXPERIENCES).
Test drove the new Nissan Frontier last night...and impressed with the revamp (won't go into details, but impressed me to think twice about my Ranger)

I guess after comparing my list here, it's pretty obvious I still have strong reservations about the dependability of a FORD. I like the Ranger and obviously enough that I placed an order for one. BUT, after doing more research here and other forums, and speaking with other FORD owners, I'm getting the feeling I might have made a mistake based on my dependability needs. While most here I'm sure enjoy their vehicles, and those that didn't , probably left this forum, I was hoping the people left here could convince me or other that FORD is just as dependable as anyone else.

Yes, I know every auto manufacturer has issues, some more than others. I've been used to driving vehicles for the last twenty years with only worrying about gas and oil. Yes, wear and tear items were replaced, and a recall or TSB may have popped on the radar, but as a whole, I have had a very pleasant experience with Japanese brands. The vehicles were stored outside 24/7 from +100 degree summers to -20 degree winters. Snow, rain, hail, even had a tree fall on one. When it was time to trade up, the vehicles held their value very well, which was a big savings moving into a new vehicle.

I'm a hands on guy, and don't mind maintaining or tinkering with my vehicles if need be. I consider myself a professional parts changer and am comfortable working on a carbureted motor to an EFI. Brakes, hoses, some electrical, trim etc....I've either done it or attempted to do it and learned in the process.

So now that you know a bit more of my background, please convince me that my future Ranger was a good call to make?? Thank you in advance to those that will contribute. I will take your feedback to heart

20 years ago? Toyota replaced a shitload of rusted frames in that time frame.

The point is Every manufacturer has issues. There is no such thing as zero defects or zero bugs. As much as some folks believe in never never land.

You like the vehicle? Buy it.
So you "got burned" eons ago. So what? Fact is the other 98% of owners had zero issues. You just had bad luck. Simple as that.

If you are expecting perfection in anything you buy, you might as well save your $$.

Ok here's my nickels worth. I have a 19 XL STX FX 4x4 with tow package & 32975 miles will be 3 yrs old in June . Don't have all the bells & whistles, just the way I like it. I had one with the rear axle seal leak at about 25000 miles Warranty fix no problem. Was not Fords fault it was a Dana issue. My mod list is when the shocks wear out I will replace them, when the the tires are shot I will replace them. So far nothing other than normal maint. I have had vehicles in the past that I just did not like after purchase so I just bite the bullet & dumped them. I am very pleased with this purchase & hoping for a keeper. You will have to determine the best way to drive it to meet your driving habits. Mine makes me smile every time I drive it.

I will echo what most have said, you will need to convince yourself. My experience has been great so far. I have owned 5 Rangers and several other brands of trucks in between. Full and mid size both depending on need at the time. All US made. All have had issues, some major, some minor. All have been taken care of under warranty. In my humble opinion the Nissan is a long over due re-fresh of a pretty good truck. I always gravitate back to midsize trucks due to how nimble they are while still giving me the “trucky” abilities I seek. Drive them all if you aren’t sure. It can be a very expensive mistake so make sure you are sure before signing on the dotted line.

I traded in my ‘20 F150 and took a beating on it to get mine-at this point, it’s the best lost money I ever spent. I plan on keeping it a long time.

Just do what I did, test drive all of the ones you are interested in purchasing. I did this and discovered that the GM twins did not have the safety features, the Taco felt funny to sit in, and who can afford the Gladiator?

After reading this, I think I will take your advise and enjoy the fact I placed a "made to order" vehicle that I really enjoyed to test drive and enjoyed drooling over in the showroom. I guess I'm just seeing the negative issues on the forums, and that's making me second guess. While it's definitely not my first new vehicle, I just wanted to reassure myself for long term ownership. You seem to have had your share of truck ownership and I do value an experienced (more experienced than I) truck owners view. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction and seeing the forest through the trees. I think the extended warranty is a viable point and option when it comes time to finalizing my purchase. I think that peace of mind is needed in my case. Maybe that's just the ticket to meet my demands. Was the warranty a FORD warranty or a third party?

I've had TONS of new trucks.....just because I get bored and go "truck shopping for fun"...LOL......I loved my previous new 2015 Tacoma TRD OR but that had the bullet proof 4.0L motor.......traded it for the 2017 Taco TRD OR which was nice with fancier bells and whistles but that's when I noticed the 3.5L motor and tranny combo sucked......I also had a new 2019 Taco TRD OR, a new 2019 Raptor supercab (That was beast and just too much truck for my needs).......and now my current 2021 Ranger Tremor Lariat......which is hands down the BEST TRUCK I"VE EVER OWNED!!.....and that says a lot because I've owned so many trucks......over 15 different trucks over the past several years and mostly Taco's........the latest generation of Taco's seem to have lots of little issues and of course most people complain about the gutless motor....but they also have the "weeping" rear diff, hood flutter, whistling from side wind......all of these were addressed with a TSB from Toyota but I did have all of these issues in one of my previous Taco's.

and when I was looking to buy again back in October of 2021 there wasn't much around of any truck by any manufacture......and the Taco's had stupid mark-ups........and I just couldn't get past the lame gutless 3.5L motor........

I love the Rangers look even though some say it looks "euro"......but it looks sleek, sharp yet tough and rugged......especially the Tremor.......the 2.3L motor is quick.......and real quick with the Ford Performance Tune......and I don't understand why the "experts" review the interior as old and dated.......my interior looks great!.....and probably on par with all of the competitors........the seats are so so comfy.......plenty of storage (for my needs) and it's bad a$$ right from the factory and no need to upgrade the tires.......and the Ranger has lots of aftermarket products if you're into that........I already went wild with just "average mods"......here's the list.. I've also added the engine cover......just because .....and had the Borla exhaust but it made a stupid whistling sound so I switched to a MBRP cat back exhaust and it's sweet sounding!...throaty at idle and nice growl without being too loud!!

EVERY TRUCK HAS "ISSUES".......after having mine for 4 months and almost 5,000 miles here's the not so cool.......NO memory seats......big deal, but it's a lariat and should have it just so that the dumb car wash dude doesn't mess with my seat!........the recirculating button on the A/C kicks off on occasion to let in fresh air......unless of course I'm at a stop sign next to a smoker (yes, it happens) or a old POS car that spews exhaust..........the underseat storage could be bigger.......the rear seat headrests could fold down.......but these are petty things and are no biggie......

the main thing for ME is how damn exciting it feels driving my Ranger!!...it hauls a$$.......easy to pass and loves stop and go traffic.......the B&O stereo is damn fine for a factory unit and no need to upgrade!.......the uplifter switches look cool on the dash even though I just have 1 led light bar and no need for the rest.....

in the end it's what suits ME and it stands out from the crowd!!..........like I said, I bought the extended warranty from FLOOD FORD......just google it......I found them from being on here.......you can buy it after you buy the truck and never buy from your local dealer because it'll just cost you more!!....it was super easy!!.......and again, I only bought it for the peace of mind for stuff I read about on here because I have too much time to waste........like the A/C unit breaking........it can happen.......not likely but it happened to a member and it's wasn't cheap!!....but this kind of thing can happen to ANY vehicle!!.......

I trust the Ford reliability now more than the Taco just based on my experience......and the Frontier isn't anything "special" and it's just another average truck and not worth getting excited over........

last thing.......I've been on here for 4 months and I'm overwhelmed at times.........too much worrying about "what if's"........I thought about just deleted my profile on here because it's mostly "bad" stuff........BUT.....I like to hear the good stuff and advice and that's why I stay!...DO NOT let the few bad "complainers" change your mind........again, it's like watching the news........everything doesn't suck!!!.........

stick with your Ranger and just buy the extended warranty (if you want peace of mind) through FLOOD FORD........and enjoy the truck!!....life is too short my friend!!

I read and reread your original post and am still not sure what you want from the forum. There are no perfect automobiles out there. You seem to understand this but then want reassurance that a Ranger is going to be the be-all-end-all car/truck.

I haven't read through the five pages of replies, but, good grief, what are your expectations of the Ranger -- or any vehicle for that matter?

Buyer's remorse is usually indicative of feeling that one has spent too much money on an impulse buy. If you truly wanted a great new truck, then enjoy the shite out of it when it comes in. If you have misgivings, then cancel and free your soul of the burden altogether. Presently, there aren't any "bad" trucks out there. Only the ones with the aesthetics and features you either want or don't want. Problems are inherent in automobiles.

I owned a Nissan Titan for over 12 trouble free years prior to buying the Ranger. Once the Titan starting showing issues they all came at once.

I was going to go with Nissan again, but was talked out if it by the Nissan dealer mechanic himself who said the new Titans were always in the shop. Back in 2019 the Frontier was uninspiring and plain.

Like you, I really like the new Frontier styling, so much so I could see one in my garage. Having said that, beauty is skin deep and I love my Ranger, it is peppy and the transmission is the best I have owned.

Sounds like you are an emotional decision maker based on truck looks and strangers comments on a forum.

This is a great group which is an extended benefit of owning a Ford. Finally, in these unusual times buy American. It matters.
