Would be interested to see side by side quotes from Zurich for an extended warranty for a Tacoma, Chevy, and Frontier. I bet they have a pretty good idea of the costs. Might be an objective measure of the relative reliability. If the difference is $1000 over the course of 7 years of ownership, I'd say that basically the trucks are equally reliable. I'm not going to complain too much about $140 bucks a year. Others might think that's worth complaining about and that's fine too.

Don't really see any further discussion needed from me. I have some opinions, others have opinions 180 degrees opposite. Ok, fine. It's called life. I said my piece. Nothing to add. Not arguing with anyone, nor expecting folks to agree with me. Simply put forth my opinion. (And we all have them.)

BTW, wasn't even remotely trolling.

As to skipping threads... I routinely skip a boatload of them.

Now, about the too high ass end...
Glad you brought up that egregious and poorly engineered rake, aka: ass-up Ranger!

Proof that my rake is wrong ...

they are all garbage.
Just depends how much trash youre willing to accept to be happy.
Louis CK Everything is amazing & Nobody is happy - YouTube

It wasn't long ago that the end of life for cars was at 100K.
Now even the most unreliable cars make it way past that. Average is more like 200K now.
And in inflation adjusted dollars you get way more from a car than you did back then.

So I don't think it's fair to say they're all garbage.

Seems like the better things get, the softer we become.

I don't keep them much past 50k. Most are replaced between 35 and 40k so I could care less about longevity. I buy the full coverage 8 year 50 to 60k full warranty so no expenses from defects and they will be gone before the warranty runs out and it pays to replace them while resale values are high. Could care less what happens after that. I am only worried about the initial quality and ownership experience. New technology and safety features make new vehicles cheaper to insure for us with all the discounts. I'd rather see up front quality and reliability then a 200k life.

Similar to me. I usually keep a vehicle about six years because it seems that is a sweet spot before value starts plunging and repairs, just due to age, start occurring.

Likewise Ed. My '19 was the longest I've kept a vehicle in over 20 years. I usually trade them in every 3 years as my write offs are lowered after the 3rd year. I added the extended warranty on it too and just got the $608.00 pro rated check back after cancelling it. I know many like to keep theirs for the long haul and maybe one day I will too. But for now my main concern is the quality of the vehicle when I buy it and of course I want/hope it'll end up being long term too. With the amount of miles I drive, I'd be long gone before hitting 200K.

It's an automotive forum and like all, the breakdown is as follows 45% bootlickers, 45% haters, and 10% normal folks.
Exactly. There are 16000 members here, a small fraction of Ranger owners. Which means there are millions out there with no problems.
I lurked on the forum a few months before buying my Ranger to see the complaints and problems.
Even if many posts are about defects, design issues or lack of quality, I still bought it.
I refuse to buy from Government Motors and refuse to pay a Toyota tax.

Retired, work is a four letter word.
I get it. This is a Ranger forum. And anyone who cares enough to be a member here is most likely a bit uptight about their truck. But does EVERYFREAKINGTHING have to be a reason to start a thread with "OMG my Ranger has this!" Or "Ford should have done this!" Sorry but I believe we have some folks on here that would bitch about being given $100 bill if they had to walk across the room to get it.

For the record my Tremor has/had two manufacturing issues that I have noticed so far. Here are the issues along with my response:

1) Driver door is slightly out of alignment. Did I call the dealer for an appointment and then bitch about the backlog? Nope. Did I start a thread to bitch about Ford and/or the dealership? Nope. Did I look at it long and hard to decide what to do? Yep. Solution? Live with it. No one else has even noticed it. For me personally it's just not worth a shop visit. Door alignment is a bit less than perfect. Ok. Move on.

2) As has been mentioned in other threads, the window trim on the left rear door was not installed correctly. Call dealer? Nope. Bitch about it here? Hell no. Solution????? Ding ding ding!!! We have a winner! I pushed the trim into place! Wow, what a thought. Took some concentrated effort but then it popped right into place. Been perfect every since.

When people ask me about my truck what do I tell them? I tell them the truth.... I LOVE MY TREMOR!!!! Do I mention the defects? What defects?

I had decided that I was never going to mention these two issues here in the forum as I did not want to add to the whining. But a couple of threads I read recently just caused me to go "Really?"

Not bashing on anyone specifically. But building a vehicle is honestly a pretty amazing process. I been though Ford, Chrysler, Kenworth and Freightliner plants. (Multiple times for all but KW. Figures since KW is my favorite. :crying:) Numerous transmission and axle plants as well. And yes, forklift (boring) factories too. Not a single time did I see any process that was not fully dedicated to building a vehicle and building it right. But it is a man-made product. Shit happens. (Yes dealers screw up too.) But at the end of the day the process is pretty amazing. Whole lot of people trying to do things right.

I guess I'm just saying that every little thing isn't a "Ford sucks!" crisis. Some of you folks would have to be put on suicide watch if you bought a new house and started nitpicking it. Just inspecting the first room would have you in the fetal position calling for your Mommy.

My rant is over.
But now you are whining about the whiners.

Just the opposite, I traded my 2004 GMC in for the 2019 Ranger in 2020. My wife's 2002 Escape is still putting around with 82k on it...hmmm, maybe she needs a Tremor....:giggle:

One of my colleagues was always complaining about work and how others working in other groups had it better than us.

Later I became his boss and told him that if the other jobs are so much better, then he should take another job. He never did take another job, but he stopped complaining to me.

I see all the complaints on this forum the same way. No one is forcing you to put up with bad leather stitching. No one is holding a gun to your head while you smell your oil.
