Well got down to the 50's, had to get my jacket and earmuffs out. The truck was cold too!! It closed the louvers for the radiator and intercooler while the engine was on!! Maybe got to mid 40's. This was begining of the month

Aww, we probably won't see 50's until March. That's T-shirt and shorts weather for us. Was 6 degrees this morning. Truck started just fine.

And what these louver things you talk about? Are they some after market thing you added.

Exactly! Louvers? Now I have to make another trip to the garage.

All I have there are dead bugs.

I think that plastic piece you remove when you take out the grille fell down there. If so, @Cabose-1 better put it back where it belongs.

It is part of the truck. They open and close as needed. Apparently, when its cold they close to let the engine warm up, then slowly open to help moderate engine temp. So, pretty cool feature. Expensive one if they get stuck closed.

My truck is a 2024. The neext generation, so its a lot different. I had a 2020 ranger and a 2022 ranger. I really like these trucks

Ah, a 6G feature. Not something I really see as needed in Texas. Canada maybe.

Haven't seen that feature over here on 6G's I guess they figured not necessary for Aus. Even Tasmania doesn't get that cold although it does occasionally snow in the higher bits in mid winter.

It is/was also on Escapes, my 2018 had active grill shutters. The supposedly operate year round except with the A/C on, to help the engine warm up quicker and operate leaner for less emissions.

This reminded me of an earlier post about the proper way to cold start a vehicle using ether starter fluid. I dug it up and posted it below because the directions on the can are WRONG.

If I recall correctly, the directions on the can said to spray it in the breather opening for 1-2 seconds - or something of that nature.

Yeah, that ain’t gonna work! These are the proper instructions…

Remove the breather cover and spray generously right into the carburetor - continue spraying until your finger is frost bitten - hold the choke open with a screwdriver if needed - step back and tell your friend to crank it over - when it doesn’t start, lean in and continue spraying directly into the carburetor while yelling to your friend, “KEEP CRANKIN’ IT”! - after it starts and your friend floors it and and starts revving the pants off it, making your screwdriver dance around the carburetor, yell at him “STOP! WHAT THE F**K ARE YOU DOING?” Then, tell him how stupid he is and that you told him not to touch the gas pedal - remove screwdriver if one was used - leave the breather cover off so you don’t have to remove it later - toss breather cover in the back seat - slam the hood shut.

But I guess they didn’t have room for all of that on the can.
You forgot the bit about jumping back quickly when it backfires out the carby, scorching off your eyebrows.
