Ford is acknowledging a bigger problem with my climate control system then originally thought. I took my truck in mid-November for an issue where the driver side was only blowing hot air with the a/c on low, but the passenger side was fine. They replace an actuator on a door. Flash forward to recently. We noticed on a trip at Christmas the passenger side was getting no heat at all. Very hot on the drivers side. So I had the truck in yesterday and they are going to change my Climate Control 'Module per an SSM....whatever that is (Phil can you help me out with this?) It is also being covered under warranty... (I'm at 33.9K right now).
They will have the truck for 3 days and are giving me a rental.
If anyone is having any issues with your climate control get with your Ford service with this SSM number on the service order.....

Good thing you caught this before the warranty was up. I think I'll add the extended one if I end up keeping this one longer than usual. So far I've been very lucky and have had zero issues with mine, let's hope I just didn't curse myself.

I never thought I would like or use my dual climate but I use them all the time. My gf is to hot in the summer or to cold in the winters so it's nice to be able to adjust one side. She's already gone through her mental pause thingy so I tell her she just doesn't have enough blood. ?

Hi Mark,

Not much help...SSM is Special Service Message which implies the folks in Service Engineering have likely been kicking this problem around behind the scenes and are directing the dealer tech on next steps...

SOLD Ranger, Not getting another, fuel in oil.
On mine, individually, all the vents work properly but it has issues when you combine. Defrost/Lower (feet) seem to work fine. When Dash/Lower are combined it flows very little air. A door is obviously not opening/closing enough to make it work properly. When combined, the temps are not equal to the setting. The tech felt the low volume of air but the computer indicated everything was working properly. Without me asking, he even compared to other Rangers on the lot; same thing. I got a chuckle because the service writer told me "all the other ones do it, so its normal". I wonder if this is all a programing issue or just a "bad" module. I've owned F150's and on my current 2018 F450, all vent selections operate when selected and with the right temp.

If you keep having trouble with that I would take it to the dealer and have them apply that Special Service Message to your Ranger......Brand new Climate Control Module install...

Similar experience with my XL. Set on feet only = great airflow out of those vents. Set on face only = great airflow out of those vents. Set on feet + face = not much air from either set of vents, even on max fan speed. Unfortunately, this just seems to be a characteristic of the truck.

Sonthe problem is woth the HVAC air distribution box. Ford already has a bulletin about it. Better yet I just got this replaced in my truck earlier this week. Why does that need to be replaced? Simple the air distribution box has warped and that causes the temp to be full cold or full hot when you dont want it.

I should also add that this is covered under the bumper to bumper warranty wich is 3 years 36,000 miles.

I am also having this same issue with the driver's side temp control. Once my Ranger is nice and warm, when I turn the temp down, the air coming out of the driver's side vents is still super hot, even turning the AC on low. Passenger's side works just fine though. It's all these little issues that make me worried about long term reliability from Ford.

that's nice but it would be more important to me to know that your dealership has techs that are skilled with the replacement- I believe it involves taking the dash apart and I've seen a couple of dash jobs where there are both scratches and rattles. Good luck.

Saab ACC boxes were plagued by these issues, Valeo produced their ACC distribution box and many had numerous problems, taking that box out is not a trivial undertaking in most autos. And yes a good many issues happen as the car ages, I'm not a big fan of the ACC boxes for that reason but they have become standard on most mid to higher trim levels.

Not much I can do about it. Definitely need to get that fixed. I’m glad they are changing the whole module and not trying to piece meal things, chasing problems over time. Ford could have opted for that. They do all the time. I’ve been fairly impressed with Ford Technicians over the years. They are very well trained.

Ok folks, I'm a bit ticked at Ford right now. I've been driving this EcoBoost Mustang around for a couple of days and I feel we have been taken a bit. Same motor, different set up.....So why couldn't they have given us a better exhaust system and 300hp? It's not like we didn't pay more....Sticker for a 2020 EcoBoost Mustang approx. $38K.....sticker for 2020 Ranger Lariat $45K....go figure.
Very fun to drive the Mustang, I may trade in my Hyundai Kona and get one of these.

Just had an issue with my climate controls. I always use Auto temp and set it at 70, works fine then suddenly it will only blow super hot air. Like it’s on high heat. Turn it all the way down and no changes. Turn on the AC and still only hot air.

Have an appt next Wednesday for another issue so I added this to the list. I told the dealer ny truck has 35,708 on it now and will most likely be over 36 by next week. She’s said “then it will be out of warranty. We can’t back mileage it and it doesn’t matter when you make the appointment.” Ugh.
