Remove dipstick and wipe clean. Insert dipstick all the way down. Remove dipstick again and using a lighter ignite the fuel diluted oil. The upper edge of the flame is your oil level. ?

You should insert the dipstick fully before checking the level. Also, after removing the stick, wipe it off and leave it out for about 5 minutes before re-inserting it so that the oil in the dipstick tube has a chance to run back down into the crankcase. This will make reading the level much easier.A question when checking the oil level, do I insert the dipstick all the way back in or just until it reaches a green mark on the top of the dipstick (seated but not fully inserted)? Thanks!
Flashlight ?I have a dumb question. When I check the oil level I have a hard time seeing where the oil comes up to in the dipstick. I wipe the dipstick off and put it down the hole for a few seconds then pull it out and it's hard for me to tell where in the stick it comes up to. Does anyone have tips to help me read my oil level? Thanks.
I clean the dipstick off and simply color the dipstick about halfway up with a black sharpie marker. Makes it real easy to see the oil levelI have a dumb question. It's always better to be a little underfull than overfull.
I thought the top dot was overfull. I always went to the top of the crosshatchesI'm guessing your truck has really low miles since the last oil change?
