Can this be “rubbed”out?

LOL yeah I need to fix a scratch or 2 our wonderful dog put on my truck.

He loves to chase snowflakes and the other day I we had some flying. He got close to the truck and next thing you know, his giant Doberman feet are digging into the paint. Thought about some traditional rubbing compound

Just be careful as you go along. The clear coat is so thin on these trucks you can easily polish through it.

I'd start with the least abrasive, something like "Scratch Out". Damp cloth, small dab on it, circular motion, let dry and wipe with a soft or microfiber towel. If that doesn't work, then move to a polish and a glaze afterwards, then wax. Either way, you should be able to fix this in short order

I've thought about getting a Doberman. My neighbor has a doberman mix and it's a really great dog, smart and very friendly but can be very intimidating to strangers. (that's a good thing to me). I'm not sure if I would crop the ears or not.

FYI I got this and with my dewalt drill it works great for getting out the many scratches my truck gets from branches or just breathing on it too hard.

How deep are the scratches? Do they catch your finger nail if you run your finger nail across the scratch? If so, it'll take more than a little elbow grease to make them go away.

If not, first step I'd do is wash that area really well. Than I'd use a bit of clay bar and lots of lube and go along the scratch. Wash the area again and dry it. See what the scratch looks like. There is a possibility that would be good enough for your desire. Next you could use a hand polish like have been mentioned here.

I had a dog jump on my subaru and the clay bar was enough to make the scratches go away. I could still see them and probably could have polished them out if I had cared to (I eventually did right before I sold it, and they went completely away). If the hand polishing doesn't work (a dab of polish on the corner of a good microfiber towel, using a scrappy old one can do more damage than good) work in small circles applying even pressure with the finger tips. Personally I wouldn't use a foam pad on a drill. I also have my own polisher. But I'm not going to tell you it won't give you good results. You don't have a black truck so even if it swirls you will probably not notice....

For what its worth, I've got some scratches on my older car I kept from my since passed dog. Reminds me of her everytime I see them.

It's a truck and it's going to get banged up if you use it as a truck. Those are happy scratches to me as opposed to a door ding from from stranger.

If the scratches disappear when wet, then yes you can polish them out. Might need wet sanding if they're deep enough. Look up ChrisFix on YouTube for a good tutorial on scratch removal.

Otherwise, leave it there as a monument to your big-ass dog!
