I think if you got a Damper and became one of the "Cool Group" him-who-shall-not-be-named-who-fled-to-Arkansas would give you a bit of leeway....maybe give you a severe tongue lashing, but surly not Ban you !!!

I think that may be my favourite of the sel-imploding threads. Hmm, maybe I’ll start a thread with links to all the threads that were doomed from the start…?
Do you really have that much time on your hands?
Gotta be too many to count!

Is this deterioration of bump stop normal wear or an indication of suspension problem ? I tow a 3,800# travel trailer couple times a year and do not go off road. If it needs to be replaced, any suggestions ? Not looking to upgrade, just a rookie on suspension issues.

Just to answer the OPs question and hopefully end this. That is the way they are made. That cross shaped hole is molded in.

He would probably build a shrine to Chris and consider it his greatest achielement to date. ;)

However, I stand with Chris and if there was ever a cool t-shirt, it’s this…

WAIT....how can you "mold a hole" ??? A hole is a big nothingness, an absence of something, a negative of a positive....
Thats like "digging a hole"....it's impossible to "dig" a hole !!!

Aaannnnddd...back to bumpstops....did someone mention Toyota ????

Regarding bumpstops in general...for those of us that don't tow and rarely haul anything heavy, do bumpstops wear out? Is there a reason I'd ever need to replace mine?

When I am doing an oil change/tire rotation, I inspect all the rubber bushings and boots to make sure nothing needs attention. The only time I remember hitting the bump stops hard is when I went over a speed bump too fast, so I suspect they rarely get used unloaded.

I suppose they could degrade over time, maybe with some environmental factors. I imagine they'd last a long time and never get brittle or harden up.

If mine every do, I'll go to the superior ones for Toyotas .... =p

That’s way closer to the truth than I care to admit.

Guilty as charged.
But I didn't want to get banned for being a troublemaker by him-who-shall-not-be-named-who-fled-to-Arkansas.
So there's that.

Probably not. That material is pretty long-lived. Should last way longer than a rubber style one. Although, those usually fail because of rust jacking.

You are on them more than you think.

If you want to experiment, mark either the axle or the stop with chalk or something that will transfer easy. Go for a normal drive and look afterwards, most likely you will see transfer between the surfaces. You might not have been on them hard, but they come into play more than you'd otherwise think.

That's the way they're supposed to be, they're hollow and if the air couldn't get out through the slots as they compress, then they would pop.
