Agree, some yrs back read several books on Cuba and the Fidelistas, lots of US involvement (meddling) and questionable policies. Nothing new there though as in with of our neighbors to the south there persists a level of distrust with the yanquis to the north , the Clash album Sandinista had a lot of political themes interwoven into numerous styles of music, I still have the album, three vinyl discs.

just to conclude though I thought it was in a way humorous when the gipper and ortega were exchanging insults and I think ortega got the upper hand in calling the gipper a "3rd rate hollywood actor" ouch
LMAO!!! Nancy Davis was a real piece of work back in the day too.....

Don't know about some of the particulars you mention but Australia is ranked by numerous publications and rankers ( is that a real word, sounds too much like wankers) in the top 10 countries, link below is to one of them. I try to keep up on world and domestic events but don't get too taken up by them because my long view of the human race is quite simple - it's going to destroy itself , just a matter of how and when.

is cal going be hurting more after banning new combustion engines in the state? A lot of business and workers in the economy have some connection to combustion engines. Parts manufactures, mechanics just to say a couple. not to mention imports and exports of related items, freight, warehouse workers and a list of service people could be at risk of losing income or possibly a job once the trend changes the situation. I guess they would survive on for a while until the demand for ice related stuff drops too low to make a living at. maybe a positive note for used car dealers. they would have a reason to up the prices on ice cars and trucks that are already in the system.

they do but have to say some of the higher end evs can put it down as well - iirc some in sub 2 sec for 0 to 60 .
Dang, my GM plastic car in faster than I can think already. But, 2 sec to 60 is like light speed. :)

one of several high end brands that have some get up and go . Oh and yes I expect some to say but they have short range or too long a recharge time , no arguement there and the price is absurd. But like Bugattis, hellcats, corvettes etc this is all for bragging rights.
  • Lucid Motors announces tri-motor version of the Air sedan, dubbed Sapphire, that will offer over 1200 hp and 0-to-60-mph launches in under two seconds.
  • The sedan will be able to top 200 mph, according to Lucid, but is likely to pay a range penalty with EPA numbers to be announced later.
  • The performance sedan, slated to arrive next year, will carry a price tag of $249,000, placing it well above the most expensive version of the Air sedan to date.
If the idea of an electric sedan with 1050 hp on tap sounds a bit tame, Lucid has something else in store for you. The EV maker has used Monterey car week to reveal the tri-motor Lucid Air Sapphire, promising over 1200 hp, along with 0-to-60-mph blasts in under two seconds, and 0-to-100-mph launches in under four seconds.

California will look like Cuba not long from now. The cars will be all old ice machines that they bastardize to keep on the road. 50 years from now they’ll still be driving 5G Ranger’s with coyotes! ?

You need to start somewhere. If we all have the mentality of kicking the can down the road this planet is doomed. Stop being selfish. I am sorry but all this bashing of CA really upsets me as a native born and raised in CA. I live in the inland empire far from the coast or cities like San Francisco etc... No state is perfect but I can see most of the negative comments are coming from folks who are probably from states that are majority republican. And trust me I despise Dems like Burnie Sanders who border on socialism.... But can not support clowns who think like Trump

Sorry for the derail here, totally off topic, but what's the latest on that giant earthquake?
Can't say but also off topic but another instance where Cali is leading the way is in adopting another less offensive name for monkeypox - offensive to an entire continent, lgbtq, and has sparked the indiscriminate killing of monkeys in Brazil. I don't care what they call it, I don't care to catch it.
So to up the ante - when is that asteroid due ?

The California Department of Public Health is referring to it as MPX — pronounced "M-P-X" or “em-pox" — as it waits for the WHO to pick a new name. Officials in Oregon, Vermont, New Jersey and elsewhere have gone with hMPXV. Some LGBTQ community organizations in Canada use Mpox.

Changing the name of an infectious disease in the middle of a growing outbreak may seem risky. But experts are confident it can be done — and that it would be riskier to do nothing. They fear the current name could discourage patients from seeking treatment, cause people to shun those who are infected, and reinforce racist tropes.

I’m from Masshole so a mini me of California. My sister has lived in Cali for 40 years now. She is a 60’s hippie type. I went out to stay with her for a month some years back. She said if I could afford to move out of this state I would! Love the weather here but… that’s about it. Way to expensive now and unnecessarily so!

Me, as soon as I retire I’m out of Mass, to expensive (my property taxes are 9.5K a year) and every time you turn around they find a new way to suck more out of you.

Think you’re about to see a huge shift in population masses that coincides with their views relating to just this.

Attempting to deflect from the truth has been SOP for some time. On a national scale (IMO), it began with Brown vs. Topeka Board of Education. Look at the condition of Public Schooling today.

Soviet Russia was a huge success......um, right......

Not news, but the obvious....

California's precariously out-of-date hybrid power grid can't handle the state's growing amounts of solar and wind energy coming online, with system managers already forcing repeated cutbacks in renewables and a continued reliance on conventional energy to keep the grid stable, according to state data.
