Saw this while at my dealer this morning. It was on a brand new 2023 Supercab Ranger. Turns out this truck, like many brand new yet to be sold vehicles was damaged while on the delivery truck. This one had the roof caved in but has since been repaired by the body shop and will now be sent to auction. The manager told me you should see some of the damage done by the carriers. Recently a new F-250 with the 7.3L Godzilla engine came in and had the whole cab ripped off of the frame by going under a bridge. The driver didn’t lower the trailer enough to go under ??‍♂

Does this mean that whoever buys it at auction will be informed about the type and extent of the damage?

I’m guessing for liability reasons all of the stickers/warnings will remain as is.

My 94 Ranger was one of those. I bought it brand new in 1996 with barely any miles on it. They told me it was un-sellable due to an issue with the front suspension. So after being sent back to Ford and fixed, it was sent back out as a used vehicle.
It ended up being a great truck for me until I sold it in 2000.

Here is the thing with train derailments. Any and all cargo is written off as a total lost in most cases.

Usually the rail road derailment crews will finish destroying and scrapping everything. Years ago they would just dig a big pit close to the derailment if it wasn't in a town and bury everything.

In my dealings with insurance companies, I have a hard time believing that to be true.

I know for a fact that BNSF and NS does write everything off as a loss.

I saw a transit getting shipped east on i40 after a train derailment nearby. It was crunched but maybe they can pull some parts..??

I was referring to digging a hole and burying things.
I have seen that happen first hand with some BNSF derailment crews. I won't say that all derailment crews did that or if any still do.

Part of the reason for that is the fact that the rail roads are also responsible for repairing any damage to properties along the rail road right of way that are damaged from a derailment.

I worked for PennCentral and then Conrail in the late 70s early 80s, somewhere east of Pana Il are a bunch of vans buried along the right of way. The big Cats flattened the vans, huge holes were dug and they were buried.

I saw one of these at the Ford dealer in Chantilly. All that appeared to be wrong was the back glass had been done in. Gives you an idea of profit margin if it is more reasonable to auction it than to replace a window. :(
