Thread updated...

Sorry to hear and welcome to the club...mine blew at around 95K...it'll be around 3K for labor and another 3 for a new trans...a rebuild take a lot longer and doesn't save much...according to what I've been told...

Sorry to hear brother. Mine had a few rough shifts near Shasta this past week. Did yours play in-between gears at all before blowing?

Did you determine where the fluid is leaking from? Could the hard shift have been from the transmission going into limp mode due to transmission fluid loss? Maybe your correct that the transmission is shot and will need a rebuild, but the images show a major fluid leak.

Years ago, I took my Ram diesel into my local Dodge dealer to do a transmission flush. They didn't properly secure the fluid line going to the radiator and I dumped all my transmission fluid on the street. I was pissed and I thought the transmission was cooked. It turned out the computer actually shut the transmission down and protected it. The repair was to properly reattach the fluid line, refill the transmission fluid and steam clean the heck out of the engine bay and undercarriage. I put another 40k miles on that transmission with no issue.

Retired, work is a four letter word.
Hmmmm? starting to see a pattern here, maybe I should dump it before mine goes up in flames. Isn't there a class action being started on these 10R80's?

Fluid looks like its originating from the same general area of the transmission fill plug/mini dip stick. Hopefully it isn't a complete failure of transmission.

I am also suspicicious about the timing between service and failure.

This is not aimed as a joke at the op's situation.
Just a fitting theme song for the 10R80's.

Ya it's toast...

3rd incident: While accelerating to highway speeds, the transmission attempted to shift from 9th to 10th but began hunting between 7th and 10th causing an error code P0766 (wrench icon on), “shift solenoid “D” performance or stuck off”. I pulled off the highway and the transmission was stuck in 5th and there was evidence of transmission fluid expelled from unknown point. The fluid sprayed back and covered the drive shaft, frame, rear diff and muffler assembly. After shutting off and waiting a few minutes to restart, the transmission was operating as before and was driven home slowly.

Even though you are out of warranty . BE NICE and ask if a ford rep can get involved because you feel thats WAY TO LOW milage for this kind of issue . especially since they know you try and take care of it by keeping up on maintenance , lots of times they will split it with you or cover some of it , worth a shot , but BE NICE !........

The sad thing for me watching this happen is I really like my 5g. If the transmission was not a constant concern and Ford had a dealer and warranty worth a poop I would say I love the 5g.
Brandon I hope it turns out to be something simple and not a 5 figure hit to your pocket book. Let us know what you find out please.

... everything I start to think ... F it I'll keep it another one blows the damn trans.

Maybe keep it another year and get away from it before 50k miles. That seems to be a safe mileage for them...

Hope this doesn't cost a small fortune for you.

If you don't have an extended warranty and want to keep your truck maybe start putting aside $ for a transmission. Or the heating/cooling blend door.. LED headlights/taillights...
