Mehhhh......
I'm kind of a "today's gas is still beter than yesterdays gas" kind of guy.

Back when gas was 89¢ a gallon there was a difference in additives and quality between Premium, Mid-Grade, Regular, and Leaded - even if they all came from the same gas station and out of the same gas nozzle. Back then, Premium was more than just octane.

Now gas is more closely regulated and it is of a much higher quality - all gas, even the cheap stuff. And to that point, it is so regulated there are some 14 different fuel blends / packages that get sold in different states / climates at different times of the year. Summer gas from the 7-11 by your house will be different from the gas they sell in the winter - at the same station in the same pump at the same octane.

So saying you have a favorite gas is almost impossible. Which blend from which station in which part of the country in which season?

Generally I prefer Ethanol Free gas from Maverik in the February / March time frame from a station that's above 5,000 feet. I'd like to get it in Premium if they would sell it but they only sell in Regular Octane. I know that isn't "top tier" gas but I see the "top tier" rating much like the JD Power and Associates awards. Sure it is a minimum standard but a majority of gas stations that aren't in the "top tier" still meet or vastly exceed EPA requirements and are just fine. Top tier is just an advertising country club. Anything currently produced that is Ethanol Free, especially in humid climates, is going to be a better fuel than anything that Chevron is putting out and if you like Techron, buy a bottle and dump it in.

Before I had a DI Engine, I use to run a little Lucas Oil Fuel Treatment in the coldest parts of the winter to keep a little lube in the upper engine. Fuel with oil gets in there faster than the thick 10W30 in the crank case does. Now, not really any benefit.

Gas is gas - fil'er up and stomp the skinny pedal.

I have a Chevron card and it's easier to pay later then cash at the pump. I do use 93 octane. I have been in the middle of nowhere and filled up with what ever station I can find if no Chevron stations are available. Plus I do get discounts with my Albertsons/Safeway account and have been saving an average of 30-60 cents a gallon on fill-ups BONUS.

I try and stay with Chevron and use my Safeway points. 1 out of 10 the pump is messed up and gives me .25-.30 cent gas. I tried once telling the owner the pumps do this. He just shook his head and said it’s Safeways fault.

But I normally fill with 91 and every 2000 miles a tank with Lucas Cleaner.

If I still had the F150 right now, filling up with 91 would make me cringe.

I may just go back to 89 and Lucas to achieve 91 and save a few bucks since right now the price difference between 89 and 91 is between .50-75 cents a gallon making Lucas additive a cheaper route.
Which Lucas additive?

Lucas Octane Boost 5.25oz bottle.

If the price difference between regular and supreme drops back to normal then its just cheaper and less hassle to run the supreme.

Always follow the instructions and mix in with a nearly empty tank. Don't over use, more is not better. You'll just end up with orange plugs and a damaged cat.

This is what I used - Fuel Treatment: Upper Cylinder Lubricant with Injector Cleaner and Fuel Conditioners. But again... Not sure it is worth running in a direct injection engine. Our engines also have (if I recall corectly) looser tolerances betwen the rings, pistons and side walls to promote better lubrication. Probaby wouldn't hurt if you wanted to run some of this stuff, but like most products and stuff they advertise for gasoline and oil, I'm not sure what benefit it provides is worth what they charge for it.

Someone else posted about this stuff not to long ago. Said they kept track and they did see a bump in better mpg while using it.

I'd agree, todays engines are engineered so much better. But old habits are hard to break and $5 every 2000 miles isn't gonna break the bank.

I built a custom 2006 Mustang that currently has 180,000 miles. Only major maintenance has been engine mounts and bump steers since it was dropped and a couple alternators and batteries, and regular tune ups. Every time it's at the dealer the owner tries to talk my brother into selling it. Has the Lucas contributed to its health? Maybe.....probably not. She gets pampered even though she eats bump-steers for breakfast. Roads here are hard on her.

And that’s when the argument started…
That one made me laugh Mike, thanks I needed that. :handsinair:

Mack, Shell is competitive in my area, and I usually stick with that. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting a QT around my area now, and I use them ocassionly as their gas has been rated Top Tier now. There are times when we're traveling I had to take what I could get, but that only happens a few times a year. I figure if one sticks to Top Tier gas as much as possible all will be well during the life of the engine.

I wish it was easier to add anything to the tank with the capless fillers these days. Some bottles are made for it, but if want to buy something in bulk you gotta use that stupid funnel and keep it clean.

I do like the capless feature but yes adding stuff can be a pain. If buying in bulk I usually buy a smaller bottle of product then once done save it and fill it from the larger one using a funnel. Unfortunately you still need the white funnel though.

Wasn’t trying to open anything .. just with the crazy price of gas currently across the states .. and it “supposedly” dropping soon … just wanted to see what everyone thought. I didn’t want to open which OCT is better .. I just didn’t know during these times what station people preferred.
You're fine Mack. Ask anything you want. You may get some blow back from those that just can't answer a question without imparting their unsolicited wisdom. But that's just the nature of forums. It's usually not intended to belittle anyone.

BTW, welcome to the forum. As you can see we do like to have a little fun at times. :)

Morning All,

I was just curious if any of you had a preference on the best gas for our trucks. Do you have a better station brand than others? Do you guys use the cheapest at the time? Costco? Most expensive? Same brand all the time? Do you feel one place over another has better MPG or just better for the engine?

I enjoy Shell or Costco gas as frequent as I can. Shell here is quite expensive.. usually one of the higher amounts with Chevron, over the typical ARCO, Valero or mom and pop stops.

What you guys use or like???
As a personal preference I like to stay with Conoco, Phillips 66 and 76 gas stations. Why you ask? Well with the app I can get up to $0.28 off a gallon and as we all know that adds up quick.
