I think I need a break. gonna save for a different possible track car in the future. but spending time with the family takes precedent over something that only I can enjoy.
ya i feel that im single so a track toy is still something i can mess with but with a family i can see that being a lot harder

Understanding your reasons for the Roof Top Tent, may I suggest this before getting one?

I had the 5FT bed version and it was a good quality tent in my opinion. To an extent it is Universal because it will fit different models, but it might make a good starter before spending the money on a Roof Top Tent. If things go well you can easily put it up for sale and get a Roof Top Tent.

Put kids in daycare (timing) and wife on a corner, or timing if kids are really little, and the track is a whole family event!

??? it's all good. I am still pretty young (38) and the kids are 4 1/2 and 7. good age to start traveling and doing stuff as a family. Kids not really into the whole track thing. Maybe 2-3 years I will start looking at my dream fun car which is a Porsche or Corvette. Gotta save up some money.

Not applicable because they aren't selling it at the moment (V2 coming sometime in the future) but the GFC superlite was a great deal for a quality wedge style tent on billie bar racks and with a soft rolling tonneau cover (rolls under the low racks all the way up). Actually selling the whole truck in a few months(or so for pending raptor order:rolleyes:)

Chris, did you ever have any trouble with the straps marring the surface of the truck? I like the idea of a bed tent that I could leave in the truck (I already have three ground tents), but with the markings that I got with ratchet straps earlier this year, I'm a bit leery about such a set-up. Not really sure if my markings were because I ratcheted it too tight, or if they were somehow related to the straps moving in the wind while driving, which I obviously wouldn't do with a tent like this.

This tent is meant to be packed away when driving and setup when stopped for camp. Simple as that

Yes, I get that, hence saying that I obviously wouldn't be driving with it.

What I'm not sure about in my incident is whether those markings I got were just because I tightened the straps too much, and would have occurred even if the truck hadn't moved an inch, or if the wind resistance from driving caused them to rub on the flank and leave the marks. I'm leaning towards the latter, but I can't say for certain one way or the other.

Therefore, my question was whether anyone has had issues with the straps from these bed tents rubbing against the flank of the truck (i.e. during a storm, high winds, etc.) and causing marking.

I am skeptical on the practicality of squeezing two adults and two kids in a RTT.

what is the issue with ground tents? Especially at a campground?

Some prefer to not be on the ground for their own level of comfort. If I didn't have the weight limit issue with my Pathfinder I would look at a Roof Top Tent as well

I have this same tent. Was gonna start here, then go to a rooftop. However, we stopped here, because it works well.

We bought another one with a higher rood and bigger windows for summer to let more air circulate. That works well too.

The rightline is very warm in the winter with 2 of us in there.

We haven't had any strap rubbing issues, but we haven't been out in any gale storms either. We don't crank them down as tight as they'll go, mostly to save wear and tear on where the straps connect to the tent.

The other, though bigger, is a pop up, and sets up faster. The rightline doesn't take 10 minutes, the other about 5.

that still can be an option. I also do track days so have a RTT to camp the night before is nice. The tent also has an annex which would be big enough for kids. We have plenty of flexibility
