I'm talking about this particular issue with this particular part. This vehicle is built with many parts from many vendors. All of whom have their own problems. Let's not lump them all into one problem.
This right here! Every manufacturer has a problem or two but post covid they all got much worse including Ford. This article. from the thread that Morgan @veedubtuner started shows how bad their QC is and they've done nothing about it. So you're right I'd love to go back to 2019 and have only a couple problems than this.

The only reason I made this post was to see how many Ford Ranger owners have experienced this exact same issue with the belt tensioner bracket snapping off. From what I seen so far it is not extremely common, but common enough and eerily breaking off in the exact same place and manner to make this look like a bad casting issue or bad design issue. Definitely an issue that cost Ford Ranger's a lot of money to have fixed and for a belt tensioner is insane.

My Ranger is going in for a new rear driveshaft Tuesday morning. I asked my service writer if he had seen this broken part issue before. He said not on late model trucks but we are going to check both bearings just in case while the truck is there. I had them replace the belt at 100,000 miles. Probably didn’t need it but I figured that was cheap insurance. I still cannot say one bad word about this truck.

Sorry this happened to yours but in a way it's good to see posts on here that show the issues Ranger owners are having so we can see if they're just limited issues or ongoing ones. Sure it would be nice to have this sub forum empty showing zero problems and in a perfect world it would be. Hopefully we don't stat seeing more of these and they get yours fixed soon for you. Also people need to remember is this forum only represents a very small fraction of Ranger owners so we'll really never know how high (or low) most of these issues are. But it's good to be aware of them and help others keep up on theirs unfortunately at someone else's expense. Good luck and hopefully you'll have it back soon.

I agree and stuff happens. I'd say yours has treated you very well and having this happen isn't a huge deal. An inconvenience yes but not the end of the world where you want to sell your truck. As long as it doesn't keep happening it's just a part of life and having to deal with it.

It could be worse. At least we don't have the problems that Toyota had years ago. lol

Agree. The issue on my Ranger is most likely something that is very rare, for as many as they have produced, but it is nice to have a forum to let Ranger owners know. Maybe future Ranger builds will redesign the tensioner being a part of the timing chain cover, so If it does brake it does not cost thousands for something that should be only a few hundred.

No plans at all to sell. Very happy with this truck.
My friends brother in law had that rusty frame issue on his Toyota. Was in the shop for months.

I went back and checked locations hoping to find a pattern (thinking possible road salt / corrosion, or excessive high temps).

Northern California
Washington State
California
Las Vegas, Nevada
San Diego, California
Glen Rock, Penn

I don't see an obvious correlation with temperature or corrosion.
-------------------
  • Most folks live along the coast in Washington State and California - mild climate.
  • Los Vegas is hot and dry
  • Glen Rock, Pa is colder but not a great deal of annual snow (not like the snow belts)
  • Generally speaking west coast states have mild climates along the coast where most of the population is. Going inland (once over the mountains), the climate can get hot and dry real quick.

I think @Loweredon33s did. Perhaps something we should all invest in *sigh*
Maybe, we need to design a timing case tensioner support strengthening bracket. Runs around behind the weak part in a semi circle and bolts to the top and bottom bolts and bolts to that stray hole at the bottom. (tap for hole thread included in kit) Available in gold zinc, or black powder coated finish.

The problem is not that Ford or any other Model has issues, it is how they address the issues that determine if you keep or gain future owners.
We the owners are the test subjects or guinea pigs as it were.

Kinda like the KDP mod on the older Cummins 5.9 engines. The front cover dowel pin would fall out and tumble down into the crank and cam gear. And the gears didn’t like that very well.
