Bed storage box

I currently have been using a plastic container to store recovery gear and some other things I always take with me, however I want to get a new box that will be big enough to put my hitch winch in as well as the recovery gear to help save some space in my bed. (currently the hitch is on its receiver mount and is in the bed outside of the box I have) I have a fold up tonneau cover so a normal tool box that goes across the bed rails won't work. I've been looking at a few different options:

One Metal version (although I think this might be slightly too wide to fit between the wheels):

I used one similar to the 3rd one for 20+ years in my F150. It fit perfectly behind the wheel wells so I didn't even have to bolt it down. Just make sure it's waterproof, I left it in an uncovered bed and everything inside stayed dry through snow and rain storms. They hold a surprisingly large amount of stuff so make sure there's handles on the sides in case you need to take it out. That way you don't have to empty the whole box as they're pretty heavy when loaded up.

Thanks for the links! I've been looking at narrow cases and possible a trailer tongue box for access to the front tie downs. I really like the narrow Pelican cases but they may be half an inch too small for my GoTreads. =(

I want something just deep enough for them and just enough space for flares, safety triangles, possible my small air compressor, and recovery gear.

Those swing cases don't work with tonneau covers without some fancy mods. They aren't big enough for all the crap I have anyway.... I really like them though.

I may get one of those boxes for my chainsaw stuff - those look like the perfect size for that. I'm going to do a little experimenting I think - I'm starting to think maybe a few smaller cases will be better than one larger one. It will make it easier to remove when I want the full bed to haul stuff.

I'll put another vote in for the swing cases. In mine, i have my recovery point, my tow hitch, a small Viair compressor, a small ratchet set, d-ring, and some shop towels. Granted i'll admit its not the most cost effective solution, but I quite like it.

I may get one of those boxes for my chainsaw stuff - those look like the perfect size for that. I'm going to do a little experimenting I think - I'm starting to think maybe a few smaller cases will be better than one larger one. It will make it easier to remove when I want the full bed to haul stuff.

The larger chests are great if you're going to leave them there for extended periods. Mine rarely came out but it did take 2 people because I had it full of stuff for work. Those smaller ones in the link look really nice for the price and it looks like they make larger ones, they're just not carried at Home Depot.

They are made by plano and capable of holding 85lbs. They do make other boxes of various sizes but not all are available at home depot.

That one looks great and a nice price too. Personally I'd rather have something I can remove easily so I can store it in the garage and not have to worry about someone stealing it back there. Even with a bed cover if someone wants in they're getting in. Plus that larger one and a couple small ones will still be under $100 which is a bonus.

Check out Huracan Fab tailgate box. It’s great for all the straps and shackles you need to carry for recovery and it’s only a little cutting on your part. It’s $600 and I’m looking to get mine towards the end of year.

I've got a tonneau cover on my truck and it works great.

Do you have a roll up one or a fold up one? I have a fold up one and the latches for the cover are right where these boxes fit. Yours is obviously different. I thought all fold up tonneaus had a similar way of securing them. The roll up ones are different for sure.

Ouch! That is a bit steep for me. It wouldn't hold all what I need either, but thanks for the idea.

If it fits the winch that is exactly what I was thinking. The big if is if it will fit the winch - it will be tight - it depends on what the internal dimensions are which I can't seem to find. I think I'll probably just go buy it and try it and if it won't fit return it.
