Interesting, yes.

Surprising? No. Anybody who's dealt with our medical system knows it's all a scam.
That we agree on. I'm not sure why people thought that medical care/insurance would get less expensive when the government mandated that you have to get health insurance. Sme with EV's. Some states are outlawing ICE in a few years, causing prices to rise. Throw in government subsidies and incentives, and price goes up.
I NEED health care and will happily take any help I can get, but I don't need an EV.

Doesn't bother me one bit.
The law allows it.
It's about as opposite to the concept of equally under the law as a program can be. Enough to make a guy want to puke.
But, So be it. The law allows it.
Just because something is legal that doesn't make it right.

Unfortunately,
Resentment of being burdened (or rewarded )unequally breeds contempt for law and Government.
Tell be about it. As a middle aged, middle class, white dude it wouldn't take much to get me ready for the boogaloo.

Meh, the performance potential of EVs intrigues me. But I'm not buying yet. Lots of stuff to be fugured out first.

Also, a question to you folks cashing in on these tax credits. How do you sleep at night knowing you've stolen from everybody just to buy your new toy?
you nailed it - the original farm bill did some great things to promote agriculture and ensure a dependable food supply for all of us, but the bill today is a far cry from 1933 , but farm lobbyists only spent $125m lobbying, barely making the top 10 , it interesting to see what sector spends the most:

We help people sell their Rangers in the easiest way possible.
I paid my dues over the course of my life. I want conveniece, not worry. I know it took time to get gas stations on every corner. Until an EV becomes conveniant, and can do what I ask of it, I will be driving gas powered vehicles.

How much does it cost to drive an EV say 500 miles vs a 22 mph comparable sized car?
You make a good point, convenience is important and right not EVs aren't attainable for everyone.

The negatives far outweigh the positives for me. The main two are. Nowhere near enough range for towing. The second is when I’m out hunting there is nowhere I can even think of within 45min one way that has a charging station. Back to the towing situation. I have yet to see a charging station that is usable for someone pulling a boat or trailer. I can only imagine how long it would take to charge it by generator during a power outage due to a hurricane.
Very solid points. Maybe one day we will see EV advancement that makes it more desirable to people

not to be a jerk but just the fact that a tax credit exists for ev pisses me off. ev is a solution looking for a problem. they are not environmentally friendly by a long shot. they are way over priced and typical govt fail in action. many of the major automakers had ev before most of us were even born. they trash canned the idea then when they realized no real up side existed for them or the customer or the environment. the difference now is that people are led to believe they are buying a "green" option of transportation and the manufactures and govt are making money this time that they were not the first few go arounds. how about a tax break to give the tax payers money back from all the inflation we have been shouldering?
so 275,913,237 vehicles registered in the U.S. in 2020. if we figure about 1000 pound lithium battery pack for that many cars thats 275913237000 pounds (roughly) lets not split frog hairs - of earth metals that must be pulled out of the ground by strip mines / open pit mines. here is a picture of an older lithium mine mainly used for tech device batts like phones / laptops. i dont wanna see how the planet will look after we swing into high gear to support this nonsense ev push. if the purpose was to really help the environment why not bio fuels that requires plants that take in co2 and expel oxygen and burn relatively clean. why no bio diesel push or even diesel electric. those are proven and well documented for being efficient and powerful. rail roads have moved countless amounts of freight for decades on diesel electric. run the engine on bio fuel and make it even better . na not enough shenanigans in that. if ford would sell us a hybrid diesel electric ranger id be on the list.

good question. i figure they can place some explosive charges and make all the room they want. however, id bet they would just start in a new spot instead of spending time or money to keep working a spot that is becoming harder to cash out. part of the reason abandoned mines are all over the place.

I'm down to take them all away. If we must have an income tax a flat tax is the only way to tax the differing people of our nation fairly. Currently, by percentage of income, the middle class is bearing the majority of the weight of the nation's tax burden.

As far as mortgage interest is concerned that was fixed a couple years back. Standard deduction for me now that the tax code was corrected. And what's wrong with a deduction for children? Are they not a person? It costs money to provide basic necessities for them as well. The only thing I deduct from our taxes is the 4 people living in our house. Although, if you know how to get a SSN for the dog's and cat it might be worth a try.

Not a dig at you, I can't blame somebody too much for taking what's available to them. But the "green" subsidies are the worst.

Those that push these also love to virtue signal about how much they care for poor folks and the middle class. But to take advantage of them you really need to be on the high end of middle class or rich. So now we're in a situation where the guy who is driving his 15 year old Chevy to work nights at the plant everyday and struggling to pay his energy bills is helping to pay for his manager's solar panels and new Tesla.

Again, I know you're just looking out for yourself. And who am I to say it's "wrong" for anybody to do so? My comment was only meant to cause people to think about it for a second.

As a small business owner I'm sure you know this better than I. But, our system is way too convoluted and filled with loopholes AND advantages for those who know how to use them. It shouldn't be that way. Can't see it getting better anytime soon though with 80k new armed IRS agents on the way.

I'm not hating the player per se. Merely trying to warn them that they might be the shill in this shell game.
FYI, all deductions are optional including the std. deduction. Anyone can pay full price if they choose. Be a “patriot”, pay full price and take zero of any optional deduction, standard or otherwise. Doing this will maintain your personal scruples. But wishing for a flat tax will only hurt those that dont already have the means, such as seniors on a fixed income. Because a flat tax will be on EVERYTHING, medications, food, medical care etc.

I scrolled through this thread this morning. As I progressed and the convo became more and more political, I was sure that when I came to the last post it would be something along the lines of...

BTW, have owned a Malibu ECO, a mild hybrid, for over ten years. I don't think it gets much better mileage in city driving than the Toyota Camry it replaced. It does get over 40 mpg on highway trips. And that's at 70 mph.

If I was still doing a daily commute of 20 miles or so, I would for sure consider a plug-in hybrid.

When I had my own business, I used the section 179 tax breaks and depreciation advantages to their fullest. Never felt guilty.

While it is dancing the line it hasn't crossed it just yet. Some subjects especially anything related to EV's is going to have some politics because of the way it's being forced on us right now. It's hard to read an article without something in in being said politically when it comes to EV's. Plus all the incentives for both the vehicles and the mining are unfortunately politicized. I think most here know where to draw the line and keep it from being a left/right argument. But there's some who still need a little reminder once in a while too.

I will say I feel the same as you taking every legal deduction. If they're there I'm taking them and don't feel one bit guilty either. You (not you personally) would be a fool to leave all that money on the table by not taking them. As someone else said if you're that concerned just opt out of all your deductions and pay through the nose. I've yet to hear of anyone ever doing this.
