I paid my dues over the course of my life. I want conveniece, not worry. I know it took time to get gas stations on every corner. Until an EV becomes conveniant, and can do what I ask of it, I will be driving gas powered vehicles.

How much does it cost to drive an EV say 500 miles vs a 22 mph comparable sized car?

One way to determine that is to look at the MPGe figure for the EV (or PHEV). MPGe stands for “Miles Per Gallon Equivalent”. Traditional MPG measures how many miles your vehicle is able to travel using one gallon of gasoline.

The negatives far outweigh the positives for me. The main two are. Nowhere near enough range for towing. The second is when I’m out hunting there is nowhere I can even think of within 45min one way that has a charging station. Back to the towing situation. I have yet to see a charging station that is usable for someone pulling a boat or trailer. I can only imagine how long it would take to charge it by generator during a power outage due to a hurricane.

All you need is the Tesla PHEV

All the benefits of the EV, all the benefits of not having to look for a charger.

No, why do I want to to pay stupid money for something that has so little range? Battery tech is at its peak, EVs are as old as ICE and have suffered the same setbacks since year one. Twice as expensive as ICE counterparts, range is highly limited opposed to ICE counterparts and no infrastructure to maintain or recharge. Batteries are supplemental and work best in hybrid settings where they can have continuous charging. Alternative/synthetic fuels are a better solution and Porsche seems to have broke that barrier.

For a PHEV that would do 30 miles on a charge, yes.
Pure EV, not yet.
Agreed - I got rid of a Hybrid Ford Fusion that had a 700 mile range on around 16 gallons of gas if I recall. It meant that I was much less reliant of filling stations. My one pet peve that I wish it had was the ability to plug in and charge the battery over night. Sadly it was regenerative braking and engine alternator only.

But I think they have worked past that now and you can get a plug in hybrid. Neighbor has a plug in hybrid Jeep. Says he gets about 20 miles on a single charge but that gets him mostly around the neighborhood.

Fwiw,
My sweetie bought a Tesla 3. It's 200-ish mile range recharges at home for about 6$. Free charging at dozens of locations. ( Obviously not free, at least I dont directly pay for it.) When feeling like a sketchy freeloader, A couple free chargers are easy walk from home.
Its a great car. But no way would it be an only car for us. My trucks serve jobs that car cant easily do.

Speaking of free electricity,
I installed a Tesla inlet to my camper.
I can charge batteries, heat, aircondition and cook food at Tesla Destination Chargers.
With a SAE adaptor, connect at the other chargers too.

A tax credit to one is a tax increase to all. Government has no money, it belongs to us.

You do realize each citizen is in debt $94,000 to the treasury, right? Per taxpayer is around $250,000. If not, please pay attention.
Well, I sure hope you bypass all of those optional deductions for your home, kids or business and choose to pay full price, so as to not give everyone a tax increase. Everyone can pay full price and by the sound of your patriotic efforts to inform all of us, Im sure you look past all of those handout deductions only used by takers and gladly pay full price. Thank You!

I had a Mercury Mariner hybrid. Overall it was a great vehicle. At 75k miles the transmission started whining, no warranty. I took to a transmission shop and they quoted me $1175 to diagnose. Then a new quote for repairs. The electric motor was integrated. I went to the dealer and traded for a new Escape for the wife.

Already cashing in. Timing is everything. Due to a rare confluence of buyer incentives in 2021 ($5k Toyota rebate and $4,200 tax credit) I just sold a 2021 Prius Prime PHEV for a $6k+ profit after 22 months of ownership. Even accounting for insurance, maintenance, fuel, and electric charging, I was paid to drive for almost two years. Demand is very high, with used cars selling for higher than the current new car MSRP. It was a great car, but our commuting needs disappeared when COVID made my wife's job 100% remote. In about two years, she will retire, and we will be ready for something new. I sincerely hope that the PHEV Ranger is ready. It's a fair bet that the Tacoma will be there (crappy seating and all) possibly as early as 2024, since they already have the major drivetrain components available in their existing model lineup.
