For the record, I've only filled up with 93. Mainly, because I don't drive mine much. I just filled it up last weekend for the first time since last August, and it only needed half a tank.

If it was my daily driver, I would be using what Ford recommends, which is 87. I would not go below that if anything lower were available near me.

Nope, I bought the truck to tow and Ford recommends 91+ when towing. If I get a call to pull a trailer with a car, I don't want to have to drive out the tank to fill with 93 or add an octane booster first so that I meet Ford recommendations. That and I don't want to detune the truck. Luckly, I work from home, or remote while on the road, so my mileage is not from a daily requirement. But I go to several races a year, got a about a 2,000-mile 3 weekend trip planned for March-April to races in SC, FL and VA.

Driving around with an empty bed, not towing anything, not using a truck as a real truck (carrying a heavy payload) then 87 is just fine.

Load up the bed where your in boost just on take off then yes octane up to get the performance. Stop and go traffic, sitting at stop lights, cruising on flat roads daily commute to work etc, 87 will do no harm.

I normally run 91 (highest I can find), but I'll be taking a 1,050 trip to Louisiana in a month or so to meet my first grandchild. I'm gonna try 87 or 88 for the trip down and back to save a few bucks. Not going to be hot-rodding it, just interstate cruising.

I'll be flashing back to the 87-89 soft shift tune as on my next fill up. Might as well ease the pain as much as possible.
I flashed back to the 87-89 soft shift tune this morning. I immediately noticed a huge difference on the way to the gas station and lets just say it wasn't for the better. Yes it was better than stock (which I can barely remember) but having run the 91-93 tune for almost 2 years now it felt slow. So I broke down and filed it up with 91 ($4.75/gal) and re-flashed it back to the 91-93soft shift tune. I keep setting a point where I'll go back to 87 so next up will be the $5.00/gal mark which will probably be a few days from now.

you're a bad influence on me....now I'm thinking "what's another 10 bucks a tank"

Mine wasn't so bad as I had a 1/2 tank and the difference between 87-91 was only going to be about $3.60. Luckily I don't drive a lot of miles so it was worth it. It's just painful watching the price spin and the gals are barely clicking over.
