Small update
Its only one opening in the box, the other is just a brace. Very little difference with it off, it has to be for sound. I just wonder what noise they where trying to kill. Seems a little over engineered to me.

It's a box resonator, there's probably a certain load/rpm/boost condition that causes it to make some noise that the engineering team didn't like.

I have not tested this on open road, just around the house. Maybe Ill notice something when it opens up a little.

It's likely very subtle, and probably not very annoying. My wifes 3.7L edge has one just like it on the intake box.
