Hi Alex

My take is that it is a Helmholtz tuner for induction noise reduction.

If you look at and read this, you'll know that you have been graced by a Krell presence.

(*I linked Krell for those who don't know the reference) :inspect:

as long as there is no speaker inside the box like the Audi exhaust systems....it's all good

I looked this up and its a real thing, I had no idea.
It’s a sound dampener for intake air. Reduce noise upon accel
This is falling in line with what the SERIOUS ? answers are stating.
I don't know what that is, but I would like to have the engine hooked to it.
Hmm, Its just a clunky, clattery diesel, you would probably miss the acceleration from the 2.3ltr
Can confirm: if you remove it you get lots of loud wooshy turbo boosty noises.
Thank You, did you notice a hit on mileage or performance? I like to hear those sounds, but its not worth losing performance to me. My wife loves to hear them to, I cut the muffler off and welded flanges so i could easily remount it. I left the resonator in though. It gave a low grumble and you can hear the turbo when its warmed up. She loves listening to it. Hard to make a Diesel sound good.

@viperwolf My very scientific experiment didn't last for long enough to notice any difference to mileage, definitely no difference in performance according to the ol' butt dyno.

I sort of jerry-rigged an intake with a pod filter out of parts I had left over from another project just to see if there was any improvement in response from the turbos. The turbo noise was actually annoyingly loud so I took it off pretty quickly lol

Small update
Its only one opening in the box, the other is just a brace. Very little difference with it off, it has to be for sound. I just wonder what noise they where trying to kill. Seems a little over engineered to me.
