I know quick lubes have been around for many years, but this is the first time I have seen them advertise wait in your car.
All the ones I used, Jiffy Lube and Valvoline, were both always stay in your car while they did the work... have a pit under the vehicle so no lifting.

I do not look forward to the day my knees and back (thanks Army) stop me from doing that. I do have one shop I semitrust. First clue they are a bit more old school. The group of older gentlemen that hang out having coffee almost everytime I do go see them for something I can't do.
im close to that now... doing the work for the oil change is a breeze. crawling around on the ground and bending knees getting back up is the real battle. i need to invent some sort of creeper lift. the free fall is a long way for my fat aft end, half the time the dang thing rolls away before i make contact lol.

I can usually plan my oil changes to have them done at the dealer.
are they trustworthy? perhaps, I've had zero issues.
I stopped doing my oil changes because its hard to get rid of the oil.
the neighbors get bitchy when i burn it on the fire.
The environmental people go ape shit crazy when i dump it down the storm drain.
tried burying it in a hole, but the thick black sludge and dead spot in the grass gets the nosy neighbors in an uproar.
Would I use a quick lube if required, sure would.
cuz I'm not a brain dead imbecile who cant double check their work if I fear their competence.
I would drive outside their exit door. open the hood, check my oil level, look under for leaks and carry the f*ck on with my life.
As said by others, some people cant do their own oil changes, and stealerships don't always have spots open for you for weeks.
you do what you gotta do.

As for liability, they have bloody insurance...we all have insurance for those moments where it all goes for a shit. clearly they (and their provider) have determined their premium is doable for the cost they charge.

Oil disposal is our biggest headache around here.

Last time I did my own oil change I heard "sorry, our used oil containers are full," five times before finding a place that took it.

I was discussing this with my boss. He said he just drops it at their door at 6 in the morning when they're closed. "Full or not, this is yours now."

In HTX Autozone or Advanced Auto will take your old oil. I buy it in 5 gallon jugs. Use a drain pan and big oil catch base. Pour the old oil back into the 5 gallon jugs and off they go to be recycled. Zero issues.

Same here, everywhere as far as I know.

The problem arrises when they won't take it, claiming their containers are full. We all know that even if it is true they can take our jugs and place them beside their big barrel. But it doesn't stop these lazy minimum wage workers who think they're worth $15/hr from refusing to take it.

Hence my boss' suggestion to make them take it.

When I was in NJ I had a huge problem with oil disposal. My towns public works had a disposal. Except after a few years they put a barb-wire fence up and cameras. You had to make an appointment to get in and it was very limited hours and closed on the weekends. Then a few years after that they just tore the whole building down, one day it was just a pile of debris and there was no more recycling center. Other towns asked to show my driver license and wouldn't let me in cause I wasn't a resident of that town.

When I was moving out I was told I had to do a whole routine to get rid of old paint cans too. So I bought cat litter and filled them up so they would solidify for disposal. Then the garbage men told me they wouldn't take it regardless. Hilarious that place...

Around here, the Auto Parts places all accept used oil. The County also has a Waste Oil disposal facility at the trash transfer station. They don't pay ya for the valuable waste product, but at least they don't charge you for disposal, either. Gotta make sure to keep an old oil container to transport it in, though.

If you use this before your oil change, they may not accept it.

I usually take mine to O'Reillys. Nobody ever looks at it. Once you have been in there & know were to go you just tell them your dumping used oil & walk on back. Dump it sign the sheet with how much & walk out. Easy peasy. :like:

Up until a few months ago, maybe a year, I would walk into Autozone, ask if they had room, then go dump if they said yes. Now they want my rewards number (does not bother me really) and how much I'm dumping. My guess is they have people who abuse the service and dump a lot more oil than I do. I do about 4 oil changes a year between all of my cars.

Hilux, Ranger, Landcruiser,
when i dump it down the storm drain.
Not mentioning names...
One guy I know just pours down the sink. Actually, its a laundry tub in the garage, connected to municipal sewer.
Justified by claiming to ”get their money’s worth” for an expensive sewer bill.

As far as ”KwikLube” places, I will never take my own cars there.
At my Job we use Jiffy Lube among others for our fleet trucks.
Personally, aside from they never put valvecaps back after checking tire pressure. I never had problems with their services. But I dont let them do anything other than change oil (plus insist they return the valvecaps...) But plenty of our guys had them leave drainplugs loose, airfilter cover not latched, and numerous other sloppy work.
