"operating as designed" is code for "not my problem"...
That was exactly my thought! An excuse to not replace the entire transmission, or the like.

This work was covered under warranty. I really have no interest in spending money for a second opinion. Regardless if it is "operating as designed" now or not, it still fell to shit after only 22k miles. I'm just going to sell it and get something different.
fair enough, but in todays market and reliability, its still a crap shoot no matter where you turn.

I ponied up and bought an extended warranty. Mine has sporadic rough shifting, particularly when running cold/first started and leaving.

Sometimes it is buttery smooth, other times, it does feel like you got rear-ended.

Actually, I got a free lifetime power train warranty when I bought it, and a 140k mile bumper to bumper warranty. But that doesn't mean I won't be in a pickle if the transmission fails while I'm out in the middle of nowhere towing a trailer 1,500m frome home. If it would've trashed at 75k miles I wouldn't be as upset because whatever, drive another 75k and get it replaced again for free. But I just do not want a truck that could fail on me with so few miles. Nah. Not going to risk that. 22k and a trashed transmission is not a very good risk indicator.

Since there're about 1000 threads about this transmission...I thought I'll drop it right here...

Pro tip...don't drop the pan full of dirty fluid like this guy...FAFO...get a cheap Amazon oil extractor pump like I did and pump out as much fluid as you can before unbolting the pan...in my case, I got 7 quarts out....so I knew exactly how much I need to put back in...

Mine is currently getting fixed for this but mine is so bad it will squeal the rear tires going from P to R and it has left multiple black spots on my driveway!

I don't think I've ever heard the waste gate vent on the Ranger. The turbo is quite quite compared to big diesel turbos or sport cars with turbos that are meant to be heard for showing off. A lot of small engine turbo vehicles these days are actually designed to not be purposely noisy. In the heat of summer when the turbo has to work harder, that's whe I hear the turbo a little better.

Corporate drone. Dilbert's world is alive & well.
10 speeds are like butter.
Just turned in a rental F150 1/2 hour ago. Put over 400 miles on it this week. Not a bad truck at all but that trans did not shift like butter. Hunted gears. Bucked a couple of times. Would jump when cold and shifting into reverse. Made me think of this forum and what so many have complained about with their Ranger trans.

When I get back to my Ranger here in a few hours I'm going to hug it. Will have a @30 mile ride home from the airport. Going to pay particular attention to the shifting while remembering the F150 this week.

Some of them have the same transmissions and issues....I've read these same threads on F150 forums. Exact same descriptions.

Before you completely give up , I would complain it is still crap and find out if they replaced the drum and if not , why, and they need to try again because the new design drum may fix it ... and any truck can leave you stranded , even one that has never acted up before ...

Yeah, I get that anything is possible and no truck will be 100% guarantee of no failures but at this point I would be vastly increasing the risk by betting on a horse that has already proven it can't finish the race. I have no interest in fighting ford on this. I just want something else and to let the ranger go. I've owned quite a few trucks, cars, and suv's over the years and non have ever let me down like this one has. My subarus are all still going strong and all but one is past 120k miles. My oldest forster I gave to my mother out in the country with mostly dirt roads. It's over 220k miles and still solid and reliable. Having the transmission trashed like this and knowing I'm not alone and many others are having similar issues, yeah I'm not going to bet on the same gimp horse twice.

@CJBax,
Did you contact the dealer after you drove it home to tell them it still had the same issues?
These dealer service dept's sometimes do a process of elimination slow walking the repair, i know that sucks for the customer, i wouldn't let them off the hook so easy, but i understand your frustration and am not criticizing your decision.
If they got it fixed correctly the second time around like others have said then you'd be in good shape and wouldn't have to bail.
Also if you trade it won't the dealer test drive and notice the issue?
Hope it works out for you whatever decision you make.

I dunno man. I'd take a step back and think about it.

So far, the dealer was responsive and proactive in going through the steps to do as much as they did. At least they found something without much pressure. So they aren't unwilling or uncooperative. It sounds like they just need to drive it some more.

Your transmission still isn't right, but that doesn't mean it can't be. Take it back, tell them it's still off, and go from there.

You've got a huge warranty on the truck. I don't know that I'd jump to get rid of it just because of a single (albeit frustrating) warranty experience. I mean, you got the warranty for the protection....so why run when you need the protection?

You could get this fixed and truck could be perfect forever.

I got frustrated for a minute with mine.....and I understand being mentally "over it".....but then I looked around at other trucks and quickly came to the same realization as when I decided to buy it in the first place - it's a damn nice truck and good value for the $ for power, size, efficiency and capability. I didn't want to spend more money buying another vehicle when I'm still covered with tens of thousands of miles of warranty. If you're going to go through the hassle of a buying experience all over again, I'd at least want to take one more stab on the transmission fix.

Unless, you can get a great deal on yours as a trade in...and then put it towards a newer Ranger that was manufactured after the 2022 cutoff.
