I haven't had an issue with Android auto. However I do not listen to music via my phone. The 4200 songs on a mini USB stick. I have Sirius XM and I listen to Yacht Rock or Fox News on that. But nothing beats my own playlist on a USB stick. I have version 3.4 as well and it's fine. I believe it's a decent upgrade from the 3.3 the royal pain in the ass to upgrade 3.4. I only use Android auto for Waze. Other than that I usually don't even have the phone hooked up into the system unless it needs charging. I am rocking a note 10 with no issues. I don't think Android auto supposed to be hooked up via if you need to have a USB cable to use all the features. Or where I go, the stock navigation works fine. If I go on a trip, I use Waze

I have a Samsung Note 10 and have had virtually no problems with Android Auto. The only hiccup I get is if I leave the phone plugged into the USB port when I turn the truck off, and come back to restart the truck, the phone goes into an infinite loop of trying to reconnect AA and Bluetooth. Unplugging the phone then re-plugging it in solves it.

Other than that, everything works fine for me. I mainly listen to Spotify, and use Google maps for nav. My only complain/wish would be an integrated weather app (similar to the Sirius Travel Link) so that I can SEE an extended forecast and/or a radar picture - that's probably the only thing I miss about my Tacoma.

I believe it was already suggested, but if you haven't already, try using the cable that came with your phone to see if that helps.

Using a different cable than your stock one, or one that's not as high quality, will give you problems.

I've not been able to get it to work consistently on any cable over 1m (not that you need a longer cable) On a 1M or under cable I've never had any issues.

Hey guys, thanks for the tips. I have a OnePlus 8 and was looking on their forums too. They also said they had better results with the stock cable that came with the phone so I tried it today and I think it's working. It definitely seemed, during the short ride, to play Amazon Music playlists and stations without a problem. And I didn't have the sometimes here sometimes not audio. Seems weird that it's so touchy about the cable but I'd be happy if this fixes it. I can buy another "official" cable. ?

There are a lot of crap out-of-spec cables out there and there's basically no way to tell by looking or with a simple test. Saying "the original cable" is just a generally reliable way of ensuring a good one. It should be possible to use a third party cable but it might take trial and error to find a good one. It would be easier if you could simply rely on people making and selling quality products.

I was using one from Anker, and I've never had one from them that was ever a problem. Even with my wife's iPhone which generally hates anything without an Apple logo. HOWEVER, it was a 6' cable and people seem to have had issues with that here too. So, brand or length, or maybe both. Either way if it keeps working I'll happily use the 2' cable that came with the phone and maybe buy a backup from OnePlus at some point.

Thanks for the good info, everyone.

in my wife's Honda I had issues with cheaper "amazon" cables...went with a 1m Anker and any android auto issues were gone. With that wisdom won in the Honda I got into my Ranger with a higher end cable and never had any Android auto issues with my Galaxy S8+

I have the OnePlus 6T and have some issues. Mostly it's with bluetooth. If I connect wireless, bluetooth audio mostly seems choppy or won't connect at all so I mostly have to use the cable.

Then I found that If I'm running around town and having to stop and get out a lot, one of the USB ports will quit recognizing and I have to move over to the next one and sometimes that won't connect also. I found that rebooting my phone sometimes works, and when that doesn't I have to restart the truck to get Sync to reboot. Sometimes I have to do both at the same time.

Doesn't matter what cable I use. I've tested cheap Walmart cables and the OG OnePlus cable.

I've had my GS8 for a couple of years now and learned it was VERY picky about cheap cables.

Only use a good quality cable and only use one 4ft or less.

I have a good quality 6ft cable that works great for everything except AA.

I have Android Auto in my other vehicles and have no issues as long as I use the 4ft> good cables.

Edit: Another thing to check, with my S8 anyway, is that pocket lint will get into the USB-C charging port and prevent good connection. AA will connect/disconnect at random. Now I occasionally clean out the charging port (amazing how much lint gets in there sometimes) and no problems.

If mine seems flaky, the charging port is the first thing I check now. Clean it out and fixes it every time. I keep a plastic toothpick in my glovebox for just such an emergency.

One of these guys.

I've noticed that answering the phone while connected to Android Auto doesn't play sound through bluetooth. I have to switch to speaker then back to bluetooth, to make it work.
