You would need to purchase a wireless adapter to use Android Auto wirelessly. The Ranger does not natively support wireless AA.

the Ranger does not support Wireless Android Auto natively. You need an adapter for this.

Our Rangers use bluetooth for phone calls and streaming music, but do not use the full range of AA functions this way.

I use the AA Wireless adapter and I'm pretty pleased with its functionality.

I have the AA wireless adapter for local drives, for longer drives I still like to use the USB cable, phone runs cooler and I get to my destination with more battery life left on the phone.

You can use wireless charging while using AA wireless. But for me, my phone gets too hot when doing this. In the Focus with the Ford Wireless charger pocket (From Ford EU) it gets hot enough to stop charging.

I got a dongle

Motorola MA1 works great. The connection is pretty aggressive. As in if you want to connect to another WiFi connection you're going to have to unplug the dongle. But other than that it's been great.

yeah, this is what I've run into, also.

I had a wireless charging pad and I put in an extra high wattage USB port for it, but yeah, the extra heat generated just doesn't work for long trips. and it still didn't charge fast enough (while using the phone for nav) to be able to take it off the charging pad most of the time.

so I removed the pad and plug in to charge for long drives, also. I still use the aa wireless adapter, though. for local stuff, I just don't worry about plugging in to charge unless my battery is already getting low.

you need a different adapter for that. they exist, but since I'm not an apple person, I don't know more than that.
I purchased the Carlin CarPlay wireless adapter for my wife to use in her Jeep. It works pretty well but once in awhile it doesn't connect when see gets in the car. Unplugging and plugging it back in always fixes it.
