I was driving to go get lunch today. Obviously with it being 100 outside I had the AC on.

Was driving at 40mph and heard a squeal from the hood and an odd smell and car immediately started blowing hot air. There was no stall or overheating which made me think it wasn’t anything with the belt.

I am thinking this is probably a compressor or clutch issue. I let it idle at home for a few minutes and held temp and belt looked good but no cool air.

Is this something I can scan for or is this just take it to a dealer and diagnose?

My knee-jerk reaction is an idler bearing seizing up and nuking the belt. I haven't looked into checking what else might be running off that belt but if you get other check engine lights I wouldn't delay in getting it to a shop.

Do you have ForScan? There are sensors with current/voltage readings that you can monitor to see if the A/C clutch is functioning properly. I did this to determine that the A/C clutch had failed in my 2021 tremor :(

That was the first thing I did was pull over and check the belt but it’s all good. I am just gonna take it in Mon and have them look at it. Unfortunately I am 99% sure Freon leaked out which was the smell. They said it’ll be about $600-700 to refill. I know we have that newer more expensive Freon but that sounds crazy.

$600 - $700 to refill, just to have it leak out again? Or, they'll fill it, check and find leaks, another $1000, then another $600 to refill again.
Go to Autozone and buy your own kit, less than $100. Or take it to an independent automotive AC specialist. If it's not under warranty, no reason to go to Ford.

My friend has a 2026 Raptor R, last week his A/C went out. It had rubbed a hole through one of the lines. I think they said vibration of some sort.
