Seeing this makes me reconsider canceling my extended warranty. It's going to be well over 100 here in HTX soon and conditioned air aids in surviving

OP, did shop explain or show you how your compressor failed? 47k is extremely low mileage for compressor failure.
Possible that if there was a leak the oil left with the refrigerant, if the compressor kept trying it could burn up, I think there is a sensor that would have prevented the compressor from working if the system pressure was too low. But I know that my compressor was still trying when it was low enough to have crazy noises from the system, so I pulled the compressor relay to prevent damage. Ford couldn't get the seal kit I needed so I had to source that myself for them. I bought $13 seal kit, they gave me $25 Ford Performance shirt for my troubles.
