So I regularly look under the truck to check for debris, leaks, etc. and noticed that the bump stops don’t look how they did when they were new and unused. Can I have a few of you guys who haven’t towed anything look at your bump stops and tell me if they look like this?
Furthermore, the owners who have towed larger loads, maybe take a look and see if this is normal.
Thanks.

How many miles have you driven your truck? That looks abnormal to what I would expect - except maybe if you had a lot of miles on it.

2,600 miles on the clock.
About 500 spent towing a 4,000lb trailer

They look like that new I think. I remember seeing mine right after I bought it thinking wtf?

Someone with little miles can verify.

Tongue weight was 510lbs. I’m curious to see how unused ones look.
On previous trucks, I replaced my bumps with Sumo Springs, helped the ride quality and kept things level. I’ll reach out to them and see if they plan on making a set for our trucks.

Here is mine from one side. 300 miles on the truck. Filled the bed with mulch a few times but no towing. You can see they are hollow somewhat and have kind of a lip around the top.

So they are built with a hole in them - OK, that doesn't look so bad then - I guess the black is from hitting the springs. I had assumed they were a bulb and that the bulb had worn thru. Glad that is not the case.

Dang maybe that one leaf spring in the back is not so good. The highway systems in this country are bad so 500 lbs tongue weight bouncing along hitting chuck holes requires a beefed spring.

Just to confirm what other have said. I was at the dealership today and looked at a new truck on the showroom floor and it looked the same with the hole in it.

Hi,

Yep...this looks like my Ranger when it only had about 5 miles on it....This jounce bumper seems to be a progressive rate, and when severely loaded it gets more resistivity...Beats the old rubber blocks a ton...From what I see...your bumpers are perfectly normal. Important that you read the owners manual for trailer tow for both tongue weight and GCW. Make sure you are within these specs.

best,

My truck looks the same as in the first picture. No towing or heavy loads. Ford is replacing them today with the same thing? Under warranty.

Looks fine to me, the excess material simply looks like what's left over from the mold process and wasn't trimmed.
