If 87 octane is sufficient, yes it will add spark timing during part throttle steady state cruising as well as full throttle.

If 87 octane is not sufficient, spark timing will be removed by the knock sensors at both part throttle and full throttle.
While that is true you have to keep in mind a couple of things;
1. At light throttle cruise the engine is least likely to have a spark knock issue where higher octane is going to make very little difference.
2. Adding timing is not a magic bullet to more power. Depending on the particular engine you have the engine will want to see max cylinder pressure around 20 degrees after top dead center. To make that happen you need to add timing. But if you add to much timing and and the max cylinder pressure occurs before that ideal spot you loose power. At WOT higher octane let's you have timing closer to the ideal point for max power.

thank you, wow 400 is a lot without out going to crazy. That is much more than i would expect from the 2.3!
After six years on the Ecoboost Mustang forum 400 wheel HP is about the limit of the 2.3 block. Because of the open deck design the weak point is between cylinders 2 and 3 where it will split if you push to much power. This is the reason that folks building big HP 2.3s use the 2.0 block with it's closed deck and thicker cylinder walls with 2.3 internals.

Cobb may have a Ranger tune, their Focus ST tune was awesome, I picked up power and mileage.
Unless it has happened recently Cobb does not provide support for the Ranger 2.3. Plus there are plenty of tuners that work with the SCT or HP Tuners platform that are just as good as anyone using the Cobb platform.

I was getting 19 stock on mine, and I babied it, I traded it for a Tundra and now I get 17.

If I had a 6 mile commute I'd get a bike, especially if the weather was nice.

I don't know what you need to do with your truck but have you looked into a Maverick Hybrid?

I got a Honda Grom a couple months ago and it's averaging 100mpg. It's tiny and easy to ride
I would love to get a small commuter bike for going to and from work

Just picked up Nissan Titan from Enterprise as replacement for my wrecked gas saver car. There were no fuel efficient rentals available other than the Titan soo...after experiencing the poor fuel milage today in the Titan, the Ranger will now be the fuel saving commuter for awhile (16mpg vs 26mpg). 22 Titan has some grunt and feels powerful (5.6L V8 w 400hp) but Ranger feels nimble and quicker still yet. Obviously more towing capacity in Titan but surprising not by too much. Ranger looks sleek and Titan looks like a brick

90 percent city driving , old man style can only get 18 mpg . Sorry to get political but I -pray the democrats get ousted it is our only hope . The crude is waiting in the ground but the Green dealers are rushing the electrical banana its the very next thing , down our throats before the tech is even ready . ( remember Donovan ? )
Oil is a global commodity. OPEC has reserves but aren’t increasing production and Russia’s oil is embargoed. The ‘greens’ have no influence over huge swaths of oil production. So, how exactly do you expect your vote to impact the cost of a global commodity? You should look up US oil production today, might surprise you. Just make sure to direct your frustrations in accurate directions or you’re wasting energy. My advice.

I have been watching my fuel mileage over the last couple months as gas has been rising. Lie-o-meter says 13.8 MPG and hand calculated says 14.86. My commute is 6 miles in bumper to bumper, stop light to stop light, traffic. Last 2 weeks been driving it like a grandpa and still haven't crossed 15 MPG. Even with a terrible traffic, stoplight commute I feel like I should be doing better than sub-15. Or should I just start considering a N/A gas engine or hybrid for my commute?
And here I thought my 17 was bad, to be fair in my case I have pretty much thrown aerodynamics out the window with everything I have done.

The truck was doing about 18mpg since the start. My wife has stopped doing WOT.
Surprisingly, it is now doing the advertised mpg.

In the 80s I would ride my bike to work on Kipling, from Jewell up to the I-70 frontage road, if one did that today they would be instant road kill.

Brings back the memories.

I often rode to work by bicycle from 1978-1988 (Jax, FL). 1978-1982 were the best years. Authorities claim crime is down but the news is horrific on a near daily basis. Still have my Greenbriar English Touring Bicycle in the garage from the later period.

The news bias is incredible...

The public and police forces are afraid to act upon penalty of loosing their freedom and/or livelihood....

Big hill to climb... Use to ride my Honda 70 in the early 70s when their were no roads at top of hill at Killing and Jewell all over Green Mtn only a 7-11 and an Amoco gas station Jewell to Colfax back then
