As has been stated our power grid in this country just isn't ready for the transition. But, the fanatics, and politicians can't see past the nose on the face. I live in the historic district of our town. With that come a historic power gird. I can just imagine what would happen if just half of the neighbors on my line plugged in at night. As my dear old Dad used to say, "Our power goes out when a rat pees on cotton" now.

Politician, from the Greek words "poli" meaning blood sucking, and "tician", meaning parasite........

?10 years in the future the latest crisis will be the influx of dead EV batteries and how we must now transition away from them to human powered propulsion systems.

Possible future...ev batteries all going out after power grid goes down.....

Ok this is a fun but largely pointless debate. EVs are here and that snowball is rolling down the hill and will not be stopped. Everything, including our habits and the grid, will adjust over time.

EV's are perfect for medium distance commuting or every day driving around town, say less than 200 miles a day. Combine that with home solar charging and it's great. We still need either ICE or Hydrogen powered cars for road trips. I am going to get an EV for this reason, but will keep my wife's 55mpg Prius for longer trips, right now the truck is sitting a lot due to gas prices. I may need to increase my current 6KW solar array a bit to offset the car in addition to powering the house. Between the solar and powerwall my current yearly electric bill is $0, with about 500KWh sold back.
I want a Powerwall so bad...Hopefully the costs come down soon as I'm one of those math heads that calculates everything automatically

they will adjust....but it'll become a shitshow in between

the brownouts and blackouts will increase home generator sales....I'm investing in Generac. They're going to be pumping household units out the door in the coming years.
Aint no one stopping me from charging my fleet of EV vehicles and running my AC during global warming.

Nice post Kevin and I agree with most of it, however, unlike the area you live in, PG&E shuts off power in many areas whenever there is a strong breeze and hot temps (several times a year). Sometimes those blackouts last for a day or more.
Kent,

Maybe it’s just a question of terminology. We get those PSPS aka public safety power shutoffs too. I thought a blackout was due to the utility actually unable to supply the power demand due to capacity constraints, not choosing to turn power off to avoid starting another wildfire. In any case, you are right, the reliability of power here isn’t the best.
Man this reads like one of those deboooooked factchecks.

False! CA does not have blackouts it has "Public Safety Power Shutoffs".

Have had one for many years...would not own a home now without one.
In this era of extreme storms, power outages, power going out, it has almost become a necessity.

My 2016 Mustang was probably my last v8. My Ranger my last ICE vehicle although it is on the 10 year plan. By then EVs will be more practical.

But still want a c4 vette to play with when I retire.?

We are in a bad spot electric wise, always going out, but usually not that long , back in 2012 we had a bad one , no juice for 17 days in the middle of summer , wifey finally caved and we've had one ever since ...

Well you are right, the net effect is the same. You are sitting there in the dark. The reason behind them is very different however. PSPS is a bit scary because it means we are in red flag conditions and wildfire risk is super high. Pack your go boxes and be ready to evacuate. The utility is shutting off power so they don’t incinerate another town if the lines blow down.
A blackout like you saw in Texas a year ago or so is due to excessive demand for power beyond what the grid can supply. These days with all the renewables on line I don’t think California has a significant power shortage.
Subtle but different.

My brother got rid of his Power Wagon and picked up a Model Y late last year. He’s only done a couple trips, and most of them have been to central Florida. He hasn’t run into any issues when it comes to charging, though as others have said here, Teslas greatest advantage is the charging infrastructure in place. Slowly I’m seeing more Electrify America stations, but having watch TFL and Out of Spec on YouTube, some of those are still pretty unreliable.

My driving style has slowed way down since picking up my Ranger. Regardless, when I take my camping trips out of Florida, I’m usually driving 11-14 hours out and back home. I’d hate to add 5,6,7,etc. hours to my trip to just charge. Whether it be an unreliable charging station or having to wait in a queue at one.

Blade runner took place 3 years ago.... still waiting

Just wait until Uncle Joe's economy really gets going and we are all forced back to riding horses. they don't burn fossil fuels or require charging stations.
Yah but they do fart......

did anyone ever hear confirmation that it was the Vegans starting a global conspiracy theory that cows were causing global warming with their farts?
they wanted us to stop breeding cows for food purposes and take them on as pets instead.
can you imagine the poop and scoop laws down at the local cow park where people let their cows roam free and play with other cows?
Cow Pattie Poopie Bag and Cow Pattie Poopie Scooper....
And some cows playing with each other...
