Had some. Scrap lumber laying about so I made this removable lumber rack. 4 bolts used as pins to secure it, will only need to unscrew 2 deck screws on one side to take it all out. 4x8 sheets on top that will stick out a foot beyond the tailgate, lumber on the bed floor or on top of sheets of plywood. Gonna make a minibarn soon so I needed to be able to haul 4x8 sheets of siding and lumber.

Nice work but, there are indentations in the bed side walls to lay 2x6's crosswise for carrying 4x8 sheets above the wheel wells. They may not be apparent in a plastic liner though.

Thanks. It's a sprayed in liner, I didn't like the wobblyness of the rear 2x6 indent by the tailgate, the bed liner texture wasn't very even and due to my bed cover box that it retracts into I can't get at the 2x6 slot in the front so this was my next option.

Great idea. This will solve my problem hauling 4x8s in my cargo trailer.

I think so too. ?

It also leaves the full length of the bed under the 4x8 sheets for other items such as tool cases, Gorilla platforms, step ladders, shovels, spirit levels, rifle cases, traction boards, etc. - stuff that you’d have to move or remove if you simply placed 2x6s across the floor of the bed. Those things would also be mostly out of sight rather than sitting on top of the 4x8s, in plain sight and easy to access. Even if a centre brace was added, you’d still have all that utility.

I was thinking how it’s almost as if Mike knew what he was doing. Then, I looked at his Showcase again and remembered, yep, he sure does. :)

Very nice, Mike. I built some racks similar to yours. As Duke mentioned, the racks you and I built allow things to be hauled underneath the 4x8 sheets. I've already hauled dimesional lumber underneath sheets of drywall.

Lay three 8’ 2x4’s in the bed and over the tailgate first to support the plywood. Works like a charm.

I don't even use 2 x 4s. The beds on these Rangers suck. Funny thing is that I had no idea that some idiot decided to make the wheel wells narrower then 4 ft sheet goods on a midsized truck before I tried slipping in the first sheet.
