I just ordered a '22 Ranger and was told that there was at least a 27 week delay if you want the Ford spray in bedliner.
Who told you that? Makes zero sense. The spray in liner is done near the factory and out sourced. I took delivery of my Tremor on 11-23-21. After the truck was finished at MAP...it only took 2 days to complete the spray in liner and have the truck ready for shipping. 2 days.

Maybe they ran out of supplies since yours was built and can’t make it for 6 months. I would think the option would flip to “late availability“ if they really can’t do it until the second half of the model year, but who knows.

Apparently they ship them off to a different facility (the "body shop") to do the bed liners and then ship them back to the factory for shipping.
For my 2021 order, in the Michigan factory at least, the vehicle was driven a few blocks away to the body shop. It was about a week extra. It's not shipping the vehicles, but just driving them there -- at least according to the dealer I worked with :D

Yeah Dave...it were me !!! Info for the factory not scuffing up the bed came from the Bullet Liner company that did mine. They had re-done several Ranger/F-150 factory beds where the liner was peeling....bed hadn't been prepped at all.
Someone else, another member posted the video where the factory liner just pulled right off using a pair of pliers. They had to use a hammer and chisel to get a properly prepped liner off.
I have seen this forst hand
i wouldnt listen to them on that.
they make a premium on in house bedliners.
they just dont want to lose the sale.
I agree

That was my understanding as well, with certain points where it gets backed up and can take longer than a week.

Is this delay confirmed? 27+ weeks seems excessive. If so, what's the details on the confirmation? Is it just some guy at the dealership saying that?

I received a reply from a longtime expert who does ordering for a Ford dealer and is extremely knowledgeable about scheduling issues and commodity restraints. He states he has seen no issues at all with this option on Ranger. It is not listed as a commodity restriction in any official Ford communication. He did state that it has been an issue with Super Duty, but not much on F-150 or Ranger. What he says is the same thing as my dealer says. I know the OP stated his dealer said 27+ weeks and several rushed to cancel the option after that, but has anyone else heard this possible 27+ week delay? I’d like to know why this dealer has that info, but no one else is seeing it.

I might still cancel the option and get it done myself, but I just question if this is fact or some communication lines got crossed and the delay is for another model. For now I am going to leave it on my order and see what happens. I might change my mind since I usually go back and forth inside my head for awhile.

I am surprised that there is all this discussion about whether to cancel having the bed liner done by the factory. With the evidence that they don't prep the surface before applying the bed liner. The fact that they spray right over all the threaded holes, tie downs and the screws attaching the tailgate access panel is enough to make me never consider a factory applied bed liner.

Wanting the Ford logo under the coating is a misguided reason for potentially waiting several weeks longer for your truck. Putting a logo under the bed liner is pretty common. I have seen pickups with Punisher logos, flames, tribal flames and manufacturers logos. LineX offers their coating in a rainbow of colors if you are looking for something different and unique.

I talked to my dealer this morning. He said they can do a spray-in liner when it arrives at the dealership because they have their own truck accessories center next door. The cost for the ArmorThane liner is about the same as Ford and it is thicker. They also take the time to remove bed and tailgate bolts and screws and prep it before doing the liner. I won’t have the Ford oval in the front, but sounds like a better product overall.

I don’t know if keeping the factory liner would have set me back that much, but with the lease ending on my ‘19 in April the quicker I can move the process along the better. Keeping my fingers crossed it shows up in 3-4 months.

In Houston go to Mike's Truck Toys, will cost you ~$400 and they can do it in a couple of hours. They did my F150 and just did my Ranger.

I don't know how to bring it forward to this post, but the video of a factory sprayed liner being pulled off is in the Show & Tell Pics & Videos from Dec 2, 2021, under Bed Liner Reviews, post #7.
Maybe someone can re-post.....

I think this is the one you're talking about? I sure hope this was a one time mistake and they're all not like this.

That's it. I also realize it shows a 2016 Ford, but is shows that even after several years the factory liner is poopoo and can be pulled right out.
Not a mistake...paint under it is still factory fresh...was never scuffed. Definitely a lack of prep.
Not saying there all like that, then and even now...but it does give some insight as to what you may be REALLY getting. Unfortunately you will never know unless you try to pull it off.

At least if you go aftermarket, Bullet Liner or Line X, they do it while you wait, so you can watch the process and proper prep.

Yeah I meant that the robots on the line made a mistake and/or were down and no one caught this. This is the number one thing they tell you in any paint process. You MUST sand and clean the surface before painting. Putting an adhesive promoter might be ok in some applications but I wouldn't want it in the bed where tools and stuff will be tossed around.

you don't always have to sand

there's a window of opportunity where the coat of paint if still not fully cured and will adhere to the next coat quite well. Depending on paint and conditions, it can be 8 to 48hrs.
I paint some parts for work, and sometimes I'll spray a part with two coats and go home. come in the next day and see a tight spot i missed and just add coat number 3 without touching the surface with anything. It adheres because it's still in the curing stage.

with that being said, i doubt Ford is applying the bedliner with-in this time frame and the fact that its a different composition makes it a moot point.
I beg to differ.

Been painting for 39 years and even with all these new "don't need to pre sand" primers they have out now I still have seen them fail. Now if you're using a rattle can and touching up a few small spots yes, you're probably safe. But something like a bed liner which will be heavily used is not something I'd want in my truck.
