I got ripped off on that so-called market adjustment for $3500 from the local Mazda dealer. When I asked what the hell was that, and their response was because the car was made in Hiroshima. I didn't do my homework on that car which is rare for me and I got taken. Market adjustment is nothing more than a dealership mark up. I found that out after I priced around and could've save myself at $3500 from other dealers 50 miles away.
Ooff. Did you not see the sticker?

I did but I didn't know it was a dealer scan. When I inquired about it, the salesman told me the mark up was because the truck was imported from Hiroshima

A couple of more items to add to the list.

First, whenever you get your car serviced, always scrutinize the bill. Look for add-ons like oil disposal fees and/or dealer supplies like rags, gloves, etc. They already build these into the service rate. If in doubt, always ask what the labor rate covers. If they only say labor, ask for a breakdown.

Never authorize a "test-drive", unless YOU go along for the ride! The only repairs which need any sort of test drive are brakes, transmission work, or in rare cases, NVH work. Otherwise, all they want to do, is drive a hotrod! About 4 years ago, a test drive resulted in destroying a Mustang Cobra, in for nothing more than an oil change!

Fore warned, fore armed!

I think the dealer knew what your screen name is and saw you coming. ;)

And never, never, ever pay the $400 for nitrogen filled tires on a vehicle purchase. That is one of the easiest money maker tools for a dealer. A cylinder cost them like $85 and they can fill every car on the lot for a year at $400 per car it’s a money maker.

Most times with just one objection from you they will cross out that charge with no hassle. But many people just accept it into the financing.
Coworker once told the dealer just remove the nitrogen and give me free air, I’ll wait.

$300 paint protection plan…..
Me- what’s that charge for?
Dealer- any rock chips on the paint as long as you own your car, bring in your car and we will touch it up.

Me- It’s a $25 nail polish bottle of the same color pint they just dab on, no thanks I don’t want that charge.
Dealer- ok

I have been to that dealer. They tried to mark up a ford fusion hybrid on me. Walked out as fast as I could. Salesman chasing me all the way back to my vehicle. California sucks. So glad I moved 2300 miles away.

Reminds me of the retro Thunderbird introduction. 40K for the T-Bird and 20K for the dealer. And, it was OKed by Ford. I waited a few years and got a slightly used, very nice $60K car for $21K. :like:

So glad I have D-Plan pricing, they can't add anything. And I always go into the finance guy's office with a pissed off look on my face to forestall any BS. He did want $2700 for a 7 year warranty, told him I can get the exact same one from Zeigler's for $900 he shut up.

So glad I have D-Plan pricing, they can't add anything. And I always go into the finance guy's office with a pissed-off look on my face to forestall any BS. He did want $2700 for a 7-year warranty, told him I can get the exact same one from Zeigler's for $900 he shut up.
After a long and painful buying experience with my Crown Vic where the finance guy tried to sell me every warranty and protection plan known to man, I learned the hard way. The finance guy tried to hit me up on an extended warranty for $2700, I said no. He moved to another "product" and I said no. After going through all his products, he went back to the $2700 extended warranty. What if I could give it to you at $500 off. I said NO. We went through all the other "products" at a new lowered price. I said NO! After the second or third wrong of the BS, I told him even if it was f'ing free I don't want it. He finally finished my paperwork and I was out of there in 10 mins.

Fast forward to 2017 when I bought my Escape, I told my sales guy ahead of time that I didn't want anything extended warranties or protection plans. He smiled like "yeah, ok. Sure" (he didn't believe me). I told him if the finance guy even brought it up I would pick my happy ass up and leave this place, they could keep the car. He thought I was kidding so I turned to him, stared him in the eye while telling him "don't try me!" When the finance guy threw the brochure down on the desk, not saying a word, I began to push the chair back. He immediately apologized, grabbing the brochure off the desk, and said he forgot he had been told not to even mention extended warranties or protection plans.

I was in the dealership and then out on my way home with the new Escape in less than an hour. When the Ranger gets here in a couple of weeks we are going to do the exact same thing.

I had a finance manager ask me 3 times to buy the extended warranty so I said if you don't think it's reliable maybe I shouldn't buy it. He shut up about it.

"Market Adjustment' ?? More like Dealer Greed!!
it happens all the time when a much sought after model hits the market, and can't be had for whatever reasons... not so much greed as opportunism.

When I bought my C7 Corvette, there were hangups from GM's carbon fiber supplier, so many parts (hoods, tops) were 'constraints' and lots of orders couldn't be filled.
As a result, dealers who had a huge allotment with a dozen 3LT highly optioned C7's on the lot, were adding $10k-$15k to MSRP. If someone wants one bad enough they'll pay it.

I test drove one at such a dealer, went to talk price and first thing off I said "the $12k dealer adjustment comes off THEN we start negotiating". The best they would do was knock a couple grand off it, so I left.

I found another dealer locally who didn't play that game - even knocked $2,000 off the deal when I ordered the car I wanted. I waited for it to be built, but that was fine.
A few days after I'd ordered the one I wanted, the first dealer called me back and wanted to make a deal...."sorry, you had your chance".

I like the new Bronco a lot, but since I've pretty much "Tremor'd" my FX4 XLT and it's been pitch perfect for 33,000 miles - I'm keeping it. And I got it on Black Friday 2 yrs ago this Nov for $10k off of it's $36k list price. I'm into it for around $30k and it's been an excellent rig.

I know, I had the first delivered C5 in Calif back in 2000, drove down to Milpitas and watched them tak it off of the truck, my third Corvette, still love my 69' triple black w/Lakers the best, even if it did cook my feet. I never pay ADM on any vehicle, the Dealer can live with market margin or keep it.
