Seems to be some confusion at the dealership.
Does the 2024 Ranger Lariat with tow package have an electric brake controller integrated with the truck?

it has the whole brake profile setup in the electronic interface.

You'd kinda like to think the dealership would be one of the last places to be confused about their product.
Sad times we live in!

How much do they charge for the feature? The tow package on my truck without the controller ran about $495. So with a brake controller included, maybe $850?

My understanding is that the 6G with the tow package included an integrated brake controller. They also have two levels of tow packages - the upper tier includes stuff like the backup assist feature.

My 2019 XL came with the tow package. It was over $500. But I bought it off the lot. Needless to say, I've never used it.

The $825 'advanced tow package' and $2305 'advanced tow package plus tech package' on 6G has the TBC, but not $495 'trailer tow package'.
Seeing that these 'advanced tow packages' and 'trailer tow package' are options on the Lariat, you can't assume it will be there if the option wasn't selected.

You (and I) have the trailer tow package, but not the trailer brake controller, unless you paid the dealer to add the TBC. No US 5G Ranger had the TBC from factory.

Wow - I didn't realize there were THREE tow package levels - I thought there were only two. Looks like the basic package gives you the receiver hitch and wiring, the advanced adds the TBC and some backup assist and the advanced is more backup assist along with a bunch of other technology (usually included in the technology package it seems).

The backup assist intrigues me since I'm terrible at backing up trailers, but since I rarely do it (which is why I'm terrible at it), it isn't nearly enough for me to trade my paid off 5G.

You probably already know this, but I'll say it anyway for those that have trouble backing a trailer.
Put your hand at the bottom of the steering wheel when you back up. The way you turn the wheel then is the way the trailer will go. Use small movements of the wheel as you go, as steering movements are soon amplified in the trailer's movement.

Again, I'm sure you already know but maybe some folks new to trailers don't. No disrespect intended.

I think it is the "small movements are soon amplified in the trailer's movements" that usually gets me.... It is weird, I've backed up trailers almost PERFECTLY - and then 10 minutes later you'd think I had never done it before - I just suck at it. A few years ago I had to back a trailer up a curved driveway at my father in laws house to get some wood to load. First trip I backed it up almost perfectly, right back to the wood pile - I was so proud of myself. We loaded up the wood, came back and on the next attempt I couldn't seem to do anything right - I finally gave up with the trailer partially down the driveway.....

Like I said, I don't do it a lot but when I need to it would be nice to have some "assist". Next time it comes up I'll try and remember the hand at the bottom of the wheel trick.

My 2020 Lariat had the tow package but not a brake controller. I had that added on at the stealership. No backup assist in 2020. It does take practice and patience to back up a trailer large or small.

I've seen a couple of YouTube vid's showing the operation of the backup assist. I'm no pro at trailering, but I can do it faster on my own then with that system, but maybe they were noobs and didn't know how to use it. From what I've seen, it has to be calibrated to each trailer you tow.
I'm interested in the 'advance tow', not for the backup assist, but for the TBC.

The back-up assist works pretty well on my 6G. My biggest complaint is that it won't let me back the trailer as sharp as I want to sometimes. Like if I'm backing 90 degrees into my drive way, I have to cut out farther into the other lane than I'm used to to get the trailer to make the turn. If I know that in advance, it's great and the system makes keeping the trailer straight much easier once I've made the turn. Especially since I usually tow a 5.5' wide by 8 long trailer that I cannot see out of any of my mirrors.

Good to know! Thanks for the input.

Practice, practice, and more practice, you'll get the hang of it. Pretty soon, it'll be a piece of cake.
The bigger the trailer, i think, the easier it is. Even smaller movements with a short trailer can get them cockeyed quickly.
