Take it in, the sooner the better.
went to the dealer yesterday and they wanted the truck then to look into it since they dont like the sound of it... but they have to wait on a loaner car to be available so hopefully next week and then it goes into the dealer to get looked at

Since you are catching it early hopefully the damage is very minute, you are under warranty still right?

no i never buy warranties since ive always voided them with built up vehicles. with this truck i will get rid of it... if it cant live past 20k without issues then i dont want it tbh... i beat the ever living piss out of my tacoma and it always kept going

I was in for an oil change today, had 23-2250 applied. I had no codes, so they only did the shift strategy update.
So far, I highly recommend it if you had shift issues.
I know this does not mean I am out of the woods for the CDF drum problem or not, but its a step in the right direction.
Told me to give it some drive time to adapt. Make note of the terminology from 23-2250.

My truck has always had some "weird" shifting. Occasionally some hard shifts on deceleration. The most annoying thing is slow acceleration in 1st, before it shifts into 2nd and jets off like a rocket since the revs are high and I'm in the boost. I think I'll bring it up at my next service. To be clear the truck has a 5yr 60k mile power train warranty on sealed units correct? Meaning the trans is covered until 60k? I'm at 42k now, so past the 12k and 36k warranties.

You mention it revving high when you first start it. That's normal for just about every engine when it's cold.

Slow acceleration in 1st is many times, in my truck, due to the traction control applying the brakes. It does it at random times like a “hill holder” even on flat ground, don’t know why…

My adaptive has been off for some time apparently due to my tuner disabling it. That may be why I haven't felt any weirdness.

UPDATE:

This weekend, I completed a survey from Ford that I received following my appt. I didn't bash them, but I was honest. I mentioned that it was disappointing to have a serious transmission issue (on a 1 year old truck) that couldn't be explained to me and that I felt the invoice should have included more detail beyond "ordered parts to overhaul transmission".

Shortly after the survey, I received an email from the dealer's service manager. He provided some detail:

"As far as what we are actually doing to the transmission we are rebuilding the internals with new parts including clutches, seals gaskets and valvebody and will reprogram the transmission control module and relearn shift adaptive, technician will put new fluid in it and test drive several times to make sure the repair is complete. If you have further questions don't hesitate to reach out to me. thanks"

I made sure to respond to him and thanked him for paying attention and providing the explanation.

Beyond that, I'm still waiting on parts I guess. It's been a week and a day since they were ordered. I'll wait until Monday 10/9 (which will be 2 weeks) and email the service manager to follow up. I've had a couple more hard shifts from P to D lately and noticed a few more awkward downshifts.

no it really isnt... my tacoma never did that my si never did that my 98 civic doesnt do that.. the only time they ever did is if its actually cold and the vehicle has to warm up! but they would all move! the ranger will not move at all and just sits and spins until it slams it self into gear!

I agree. It's definitely not normal when it's unresponsive to throttle and hardly moves. Plus, for me at least, it's very infrequent. But when it happens, it's so sluggish, it's probably unsafe.....luckily when it happens, mine works itself out driving out my long driveway. It's quirky and inconsistent enough that I don't want my daughter driving it. I've never experienced anything like it in my 30ish years of driving.

agreed its really annoying that it isnt all the time... since sometimes for mine it drives fine and just has an odd shift here and there and i can enjoy the truck but days like today... woke up late so was rushing out the house and jumped into the truck and welp no move put it in park drive and turned it off and back on nothing so i ditched it and took my bike... which ran out of gas midway into work lmao what a fun morning!

ive already got a car allocated in my name so my truck will be gone in a month or so... i tried the domestic vehicles and so far not a fan im going back to imports.

And the below is why I will be getting an extended warranty. Probably to 150k

Sometimes, there's actually zero symptoms before a big dump...it just can't hold it in anymore by 95,000 miles...time to go...
Exactly. Sucks To Be You will probably be the official catchphrase by then. Unofficially, it already is.
Yeah, I've definitely experienced that....not all of the time, but somewhat regularly.

I feel like the hard shifts have become more common since I hit 20K miles. Either that, or I started paying closer attention then. Several HARD shifts from P to D when first going. When it happens, even with my foot on the brake, you can feel it (and hear it) slam into to gear. It actually startled my kid a couple of times! Haha. That HARD P->D shift has happened 4-8 times in the last 6-7K miles.
thats how mine has been where i have felt it and put the truck back in park and back to drive to see if it would do it again.. the not moving is so odd thou.... my driveway is behind my house and i have a small hill and the dang thing yesterday after 2 hours of not being moved refused to move but creep until it warmed up? then it moved like normal.... so idk makes me wonder if i should get it checked
