The maintenance is much more expensive on a diesel. Does not make any sense to me for anyone who does not tow a lot. Also the emissions can be very expensive when something goes wrong.
I like how you said when instead of if “something goes wrong “

Late model engine swaps are mostly an internet pipe dream. Sure, every once and a while a performance shop will do one, but they have the parts, tools, fabrication skills, and disposable money to pull it off.

For an individual wrencher, ripping apart a relatively new $30k+ vehicle to try to horseshoe a completely irrelevant drive train into it is unrealistic. It's far more involved than the LS swap bros on YouTube will lead you to believe.

Even if you get the engine in, you have a whole slew of electronics and computers that will need to be addressed, and a host of equipment that will tally up in the thousands...

Not to mention I'm pretty sure engines are now tied to VINs, with the average person not having access to the equipment to manage this.

My buddy here in MT has a shop that specializes in 4bt swaps. He said when the 2.3 goes to pasture and I still have the truck he is ready for it. Haha. I'd love to have a diesel in the ranger but how cost effective is it going to be in the long run is my thought.
SIGN ME UP! That's the plan with mine as well. Will he be adapting it to the 10R80 trashbox or a manual swap? I wont even shed a single tear when the 2.3L takes a dump!

A 4BT is a glorified forklift motor, there's nothing to them, mechanical everything, emissions will be tough since the truck is so new not sure how that will work til the truck is older BUT I have seen a few 90's-00's Rangers running 4BTs and Kubotas.

Just chip it and put a full turbo back exhaust on it and call it a day.

You're probably in for a disappointment, when your engine and trans goes twenty years!

I'd say yes, but I'm not sure I'd want to as it's a complicated motor with all of the accessory wiring and piping.

They're Coyote swapping these things in Australia! I'd rather go that route!

Yep!!!! Now we're talkin. Americans have been building V8 Rangers well before the T5 came along.

I'd be surprised if they make a decade til you hear of sticking injectors, carbon buildup, oil consumption ect cool truck to own for a few yrs but not a long lasting one. 10R80 GM colab is a pos I've never heard a transmission make so many awful noises, miss gears, choose the wrong gear, slip ect lots of bad rep on the trans.

I have owned several diesels. They do not scare me....plus with an engine swap 4bt I won't need to worry about emissions

He said he already has the software to tune the 10r80 to mesh with the 4bt. I would love a 6 speed or grab a 7 speed from the bronco for the ranger.

OR this

This company was going to do these for Ford Australia as a limited release vehicle sold through Ford dealerships with full factory warranty and support, as a stop gap for those who wanted petrol power until the V6 turbo arrived, then covid hit, and the plan got shelved, sadly.
They also build, ?rebuild, Dodge Rams in RHD for FCA here for the local market.

Their fit and finish is impeccable, as good or better than factory ( they used to build specials for GM when they were manufacturing here).

I recall reading the original story. Now, we need a cost effective alternative builder here in North America.

A bit 'off topic', but there's a shop in Colorado that converts Pontiac GXPs into Holden models - interesting. https://lefthandutes.com/
