I just put in a rough country 2.5in leveling kit on my 2019 ford ranger I’m trying to figure out what’s the largest size tires I can fit and rim combo without cutting away at things. Looking to go for an aggressive all terrain tire

You keeping the stock wheels? If so, a 265/70/17 is the absolute biggest you can get away with. Based on my several hours of research.

Well to state the obvious, the same size that you have now in mud and snow. Speedo, mileage compute, etc. doesnt need modified. It is called the KISS method. ?

What if I run a 1 inch spacer
I can't say for sure but I also would not recommend a wheel spacer for safety reasons. With that being said most on here have put 285/70-17 tire on the stock wheels and uses a 1/4 spacer and had minimal to no rubbing.

I'm looking to do the same to my truck except I want black wheels. What wheel should I get for General Grabber ATX 265/70R17 on 2.5" level no cutting?

Any wheel that has either a +55 or +47 offset will fit with not problems without rubbing. Basically saying the stock wheels do the trick. Even the Ford Performance raptor wheels will fit.

I just found the biggest tires that would work with no cutting. I put the tires on first and then a week later added 2.5” level. Stock 17” wheels with 265/70/17 work great. Look even better with the 2.5” level. I put Goodyear DuraTrac which are AT.

KO2’s in 275/70R17 work with no cutting.

Jon,

This is all going to depend on the offset of your wheels.. if you stay stock, @Goodrx is likely right about those 265/70R17s.

Depending on the offset of the after market wheels you choose, you might be able to get away with 275/70R17s. I did, but just barely. My wheels are +15mm offset compared to the +55mm offset of the factory wheels. I have less than 1/4” clearance from crash bars - one is more like 1/8”. If I chose a different tire, I might be rubbing the crash bars. Without my offset, I’d be rubbing the knuckle.

There’s no definitive answer - tire profiles of the same size differ from mfg to mfg - tread width varies and it can be a bit of a crap shoot if you’re pushing the size limit.

This tire/wheel offset guide might help.

265/70/R17s will give you a beefy, aggressive look without having to worry too much about crash bars or spacers or offset.

If you want to go bigger, go with a 3” lift and you’ll have less to worry about.

Check out the Showcase section - you’ll see plenty of Rangers with 265s and a 2.5” level that look awesome. Good luck.

My truck has 18 inch oem rims. 265 60 18 tires, haven't bought the rims yet, wondering if I dropped down to 17 inch rims could I go wider for stance and appearance looks and stability and avoid any cutting or rubbing.

Hey Mike,

Assuming you’re lifting or levelling, you can likely get away with 275/70/17s but it will depend on the offset of the after market wheels. Other members have had good luck when staying at +20mm offset or higher. Keep in mind, 275s are less than 1/2” wider than stock. Also, if you go to 285s, you’ll rub.

Moving to 17” wheels will give you more sidewall which will give you a bit more off road performance and a beefier look.

You could keep your OEM wheels and go taller to 275/65/18 but I’m not sure what would happen with rubbing - the extra width moves the sidewall 0.2” closer to the knuckle.

Maybe some other owners with this 18” setup know better.

Thanks Duke! Just talked with my installer. $1450 pre tax for Bilstein 5100s all around set at 1 inch then add the top plate 1 inch lift and alignment, then I can bring it home and check for clearance. If I have room the. We can add the bottom plate which wont require the complete tear down and spring removal. It's this stupid header that is my problem. I can gain an inch if I take out the bottom 2x4 but then I must reinforce it from above so I don't get sag and the door seals and operates correctly. I attached a pic of my clearance due to the 2 inch antenna
