hmmm...what's the rear end and resetting the radio have to do with the transmission?
I think they are throwing darts at it, or playing the “try a few things until it resolves the problem” game as they admitted they don’t really know what’s the issue. Reset the trans adaptives and cleaned the rear end up assuming that would fix it. I am not a Ford mechanic so I will let them deal with it if the problem comes back.

I would think the first thing they should do is scan for codes...did they do that?

Yes…no codes, but the rear end fluid level was low. So they drained it, took the cover off to inspect for damage, let it sit overnight, then re-installed the cover and fluid.

Also reset the adaptives as it’s “grabby” in the lower gears and shift points are back to the day I test drove it (higher, around 2,500 to 3k in city driving). It took about 6,000 miles before it “learned” to shift at around 2k.

So, coming to a stop and the 3-1 shift feeling like it is about to lock up the rear wheels is not normal? Mine has done that regularly since new. Ranger is the only modern Ford automatic I have any experience with, last Ford auto I used was the C6 behind the 462cu in engine with 2.80:1 rear end.

It's been 2.5 years since I ran mine stock (Livernois tune) but I don't remember that happening.

I just figured that is how the truck was supposed to drive. My first truck and the last auto I'd driving was nearly 20 years, previous 2 were 99 CR-V and Accord.

It does and will skip gears but it shouldn't feel like it is going to lock up. I do remember seeing this (skipping gears) when it shifted and it was smooth and not rough or really noticeable.

When I stop a little quicker, mine tends to clunk in those lower gears. When I brake slowly, it’s fine. The only other thing I notice from the trans is an occasionally hard shift around 5th gear.

I'll wait for driving problems or a MIL to appear.

See this post to speed the process up.

No, I do not use Sport mode. Even then, if you tap the shifter + or - it would show a gear selection on the display.

My 10R80 is actually stuck between gears, as in it tries to shift and the revs go up but the shift doesn’t complete and the computer pulls timing so the throttle pedal has less of an effect while the truck coasts/slows down.

It eventually finds a gear but holy cow, it takes many seconds which is not normal.
Yes my 2020 with 27k has been doing this when cold also. , I try warming it up at least 5 mins in the morning which seems to work , I need to bring it in also .

The transmission re-learn seems to have solved the issue.
thats excellent news! mines "ready" at the dealer to pickup but i havent had a chance to get it yet. I know at least part of what was done was the pcm reset stuff so it is good to hear it worked for you. maybe it will for my truck also.
