Yeah... people are making this way, way more of a big deal deal than it actually is. On the last ranger I had, I put almost 200K miles on it and never once did I feel the need to have a damped rear tailgate, and it was a heavier steel tailgate too.

Even the TFL Truck guys did it. Time stamped video - Ooh a damped tailgate challenge comparison. How much do you want to bet when he gets to the Ranger he drops it like a total F'ing dumb ass, knowing full well it's not damped.

Indeed... watch the video, some of those are taking so long to go down that the guy pushes them down with his hand. i can have my Ranger tailgate open in .3 seconds.

I've got a better solution - don't be a dumb ass and let the tailgate drop. Much like the reason I won't be getting a China Raptor grill, I won't be jumping on the bandwagon to get a damped tailgate strut either. At the point where everyone thinks it's the cool thing to do... it's past the point of being the cool thing to do.

Stepping down off my soap box. :D

Well that guy at tfl sure doesnt have any bias

I guess I don't understand all the critics. You don't want one. No need to post the personal negatives as people who want it will get it. . Those who don't want it and/ or ridicule it are not gonna change any minds of those who love it. .

Exactly. It's kind of like those who like and went out and did the folding
mirrors and window mod. I would've liked to have all 4 windows auto up/down but not enough to go out and spend money on this mod. What I didn't do is go over there and criticize all those who did it. Different strokes for different folks. :)

LOL we seem to be on the exact same page on this one. it's so light even if my hands are full I can bring my knee up to catch it and let it down. With it damped I'd be waiting for the damn thing to open. I gotta watch that video I bet he does let it slam open! Last one I watched the guy complained he didn't know it wasn't damped and he sprained his thumb!!! how do you sprain a thumb on an aluminum tailgate

That's funny that Jeep provided the competition trucks... A Gladiator Rubicon and they get a Ranger XLT for comparison. Fair would be the Lariat but that's a Chrysler move if I ever did see one.

It's super weird to me how much some people are bothered by tailgate dampers on other peoples' trucks.

Between this thread and the one in 'Exterior Mods' there are dozens of posts where people feel compelled to share how pointless they think this is. It's really baffling.

Those who bought it and want to buy it have their own reasoning. Personally I enjoy the convenience of carrying items and opening the3 tailgate....Moves down nice and smooth....Ford could have sold these for $49 and we would still purchase one
Whoops splat! Hahah. Don't take it as criticizing, or personal attacks or anything like that. I just find the attention the tailgate damper gets kinda funny and weird, that's all. Some get excited about the smallest things. To each his own and enjoy your dampers.

Ordered yesterday and they estimated delivery 3rd to the 7th. Today I got a notification that Varsity will be "receiving from the supplier in 7-10 days"... So much for January 3rd to 7th....

Hey thanks for the tip that price was better than Lasco. I had ordered mine but got an email fro Lasco saying it was not available and that they cancelled my order and refunded my card so I ordered this route. It was interesting that it said 100% discount of shipping but maxed out at $10.00, still a better deal than Lasco.

I appreciate the tip...Jim

I like easy and dampers make worrying about dropping it too hard not a worry so, I am good with them. I wouldn't give $100 for one but less than $50.00, yeah I would do that...

ppl have opinions and idk I guess they like to share them. I just think it's comical because the tailgate weighs practically nothing and in my mind a damper is totally useless. But like I said whatever blows your skirt up. Your truck your choice.

I think most manufacturers did away with them the last couple years. Everyone seems to use car play or a USB stick with their music on it.

I could be wrong but I think the basic radio package has a cd player. I kinda wish mine had one but I guess cd's are a thing of the past now.
