Does anyone make a slim crossover tool box that doesn't look like it's from the 1990s?

1992 called they want their diamond plate back. All I desire is a slim tool box in black that is SMOOTH sided. I just need something that can hold some basic tools that doesn't sacrifice the bed for like plywood or tall objects. So no cargo boxes in the bed floor, no overland topper, etc.

I'll get the diamond plate if I HAVE to, but yuck.

Not sure if they make one for mid-size trucks but it looks way better than diamond plate.

I wish but no. The Ranger barely fits a sheet of 4x8 plywood that I have to randomly buy at the home depot for my arts and crafts projects, and those get in the way. They work perfect on F150's though. I've spent hours looking, and it seems like there just isn't a market for anyone to make a more modern looking low profile slim crossover box. Overlanding is the hype these days, all efforts are into modern caps that fit RTTs. It looks like Grandpa's tool box is the winner so far.

I'd pay good money for a low profile 12in wide 12in deep crossover box in smooth aluminum powder coated matte black. Having one made isn't off the table if I can find a fabrication company in Texas that has experience doing such things.

You're probably not going to find it in aluminum.

The aluminum probably needs the diamond plate pattern to keep it from "oil canning" while driving.

Here are some in steel, but they may be bigger than what you are looking for

Yeah too big. I just need to carry basic tools. I own a chain of stores and need to carry your usual tools like a battery drill, screwdrivers, small socket set, wrenches, hammer, etc at all times... Nothing crazy just enough to do basic maintence and repair on things and I don't want a tool bag in the cab nor do I want a box sliding around in the bed (what I did on my 2023 Ranger and it was always a PITA). Gloss black diamond plate doesn't wet my whistle aesthetically, but it checks off all the boxes figuratively speaking. 12in wide, 10in deep, 53in tub. It'll fit everything with room to spare and keep the cab and bed free of clutter.

Have you considered the swing out boxes? I have them in my ranger. They’re plastic but they work for keeping some basic stuff with you. They’re built so they don’t stick out further than the wheel wells. I haven’t noticed any lost bed space like you get with a crossover box. They actually fit a surprising amount of tools if you pack them right.
The only downside I’ve found with them is:
1) They’re plastic so they aren’t meant to carry a lot of weight.
2) If you have anything in the bed, they won’t swing out and you can’t open the lid.
