Does no one make an over-the-cab topper?

I am not talking about a ulility topper, or a topper designed around having an RTT or sleeping bed.

I mean a plain old topper, but is built an additional 4-5 feet (9-10 feet in total from tail gate to front windshield) in length, but only 6-8" in height to create a small storage cubby area over the roof? I envision a pull out rack/tray system in this area with items secured on the underside by either some type of strap, molle, or similar.

Like a decked system, upside down, but over the roof and internal to the topper.

You need to look at commercial type toppers, like Sterling or Spacekap.
Something like this ???
But doubt your going to find one for a mid-size with a 5 foot bed....
Time for a DIY !!!

Cut the height over the cab in half and that's about what he's looking for it sounds like.

This is from Tufport, but a slide in, and their web site lists short bed/midsize applications. But $$$$$$

1. Bingo, but also extended another couple of feet. (See pic)

2. I'd want a standard topper profile with slanted sides, not straight walled.

Doubt your going to find anything like that, especially for a mid-size short bed...
Design your own ??? Wood ribs like a boat with thin sheet metal skin ???
Modify an existing topper ???

Or buy one you like for size and style, and chop the top. Most of these are just fiberglass.

There of course smaller companies who do build custom in house.

Best of luck on the hunt Jack.

Just like this.

I’ve been scouring the Googleverse and can’t find anything but if there was something like an AT Overland Atlas topper that didn’t pop up, you’d be smiling.

Looking at Overlands website first thing, hope you got deep pockets! They’re not cheap but looks like great quality. It also appears that they will build just about anything you want. Might be worth shooting them a request of what you’re looking for and their estimate of what it would cost to make for you.

At this point I think you are just trying to push the Ranger to see how much it will handle before ut breaks the frame. That said I think you have been the most creative here with the Ranger

I don't want to add any weight up there besides some light gear. I am often torn between my current setup, which offers a vast amount of storage and modularity, and a topper that would give me complete enclosure and the ability to build out the interior with a bed, which would in turn mean I don't need tents. I could also build out other interior items using plain old treated wood, where as right now I have to either work with metal, or find something plastic that works.

Yes there are toppers that also have pop up capability with bedding, but I'm not willing to pay that price knowing I could build something unique to my wants with a good base foundation. Plus all of them seem to have the straight wall design, I want a standard profile, plus the over the cab extension.

The overcab portion if it existed just stretches the topper's capability that extra mile for me.

I suspect a topper like I want, would actually weigh less than my current setup...

That's what I'll be doing with the topper I have.
I need to find out how much it weighs.
I can lift the front or the back by myself.
It only took two of us to take it off the truck it was on.
It's not a slide in. It just sits on the bed.
