Now I don't need a new truck, and mine is set up nicely, but there is a new 2025 Lariat 2.7L on a local dealer lot for $8100 below MSRP. The thought of having the more reliable transmission and the smooth, proven V6 is very tempting.

IIRC the 10R60 still uses some of the same valves as our does. Go over to the 6G site and you'll see some there having issues with theirs and also on the Bronco forum. If yours is running good and there's no potential issues you can see I would just tune it and you'll have even more hp/tq for a lot less. Sometimes it's better to stay with the devil you know.

Valid argument. I'm already tuned. I've been lurking on the 6G site for a while now. I haven't specifically searched for trans issues, but they don't seem to pop up as often as here.

It is a bummer; but every time I have a clunky downshift and I have this thought, I try to remind myself the cost of a transmission vs a new auto loan.

Consider that most 6g's are still relatively low mileage compared to the 5g's. I feel like the transmission talk has ramped up during my time with this group and I joined when I bought my truck in late 2022. How was the forum temperature, for those that have been here since day 1, 2019-2022? I would imagine far less transmission issue threads popped up in the early years, but I was not here, so could be completely wrong.

That's exactly what I was starting to reply then saw your pop up. There was a few sporadic incidents but nothing really major until Sids blew up a couple years ago.

I think it was Shawn @ctechbob who broke down the differences/similarities of both these transmissions in another post. I thought I remember him saying that while the 10R60 is a little better they still have several similarities. Basically it's not if something will happen it's when. I may be wrong but hopefully he can clear this up better for you.

If he's looking, he's thinking about it.
That's why I stay away from the dealerships. I would love a new Raptor but don't want to be tempted and I know myself. If I go looking and find a good deal one will follow me home and I'll have buyers remorse a couple weeks later. It's bad enough with what they costs now but then you have to factor in the added insurance cost and vehicle tax which many states have. On my Ranger the first year is around $550 for the vehicle tax.:curse:

$8100 below MSRP does sound tempting. What are the dealer fees? I just had my Ford dealer ask if I would like to trade my 2021 FX4 in on a new one. I didn't even bother to ask what they had in mind. I just told him NO!
