:crying:6200 miles on it... Lady behind me didn’t even attempt to stop when traffic went to a dead stop for a disabled vehicle ahead. She was easily doing 55-65 when she hit me. I’d say the ranger is pretty tough. My drawtite hitch is fubar, same with rear bumper and some cosmetic at tailgate. I think the rear frame will wind up needing realigned or replaced but not sure, can tell some of it is bent.

We both have USAA and I imagine it will be her found at fault since at rear and not having adequate distance to stop. I’m just hoping nothing structural with truck but I’m worried about the frame area that almost looks as if it is now punched.

I don't think you can hammer out a frame, so depending on how bad it is, this might get totaled out even if the exterior damage is minimal.

yeah my hitch got realigned lol she made no effort to stop... exiting a 65mph stretch in Dallas where people frequent at 80mph.

I’ve already ordered another hitch in hopes that frame piece is within spec or repairable. I have stuff to tow come Monday so currently at usaa approved shop for estimate at the moment

at 55 to 65???

Im no frame expert, but i do know insurance in my area is very specific on costs. they will literally go down to the dollar before they decide if a vehicle is a writeoff or not.
A bent frame can be fixed. but at what cost?
look at that website with all the wrecked rangers for sale and you'll get an idea what writes them off vs repairing them.

My drawtite hitch is fubar . . .
Seems a number of Rangers getting highway tested for toughness. Also, some acronyms have entered mainstream language without full explanation. Is this to mean your drawtite is fucked up beyond all repair?

Yep haha I picked that one up in the army. I am distraught though, i'm getting 23.8 mpg and driving like a saint for some lady in an escalade to rear end me :frown:

Thanks! Estimate right now (without bumper removed and frame inspection) is at $3000. Tailgate and bumper i can live with knowing that it will all be factory parts put back on. Fingers crossed there isnt any damage to frame but i do think it has been pinched down on both sides after getting underneath it with the service king advisor today.
Not another one! Sorry about that, hang in there

So let me get this straight, you were at a dead stop and a lady in an Escalade rear-ended you at 55-60 mph? I’m no accident investigator, but your damage does not show anything close that that level of impact. There would have been major damage to both vehicles with an impact like that. Your frame would have seriously buckled, to absorb the impact, and the bed and the tailgate would be all messed up. You would probably also have damage on the rear of the cab too, from the bed being pushed into the cab. Last, your Ranger would have been pushed forward, and you probably would have rear-ended the car in front of you. What did the Escalade look like? Did its airbag(s) pop?

I went through this earlier this year with my Mustang. I was rear-ended and then pushed into a GMC pickup in front of me. I probably hit the GMC pickup at 15 mph. The frontal impact was enough to pop the knee airbag on my car and mess up the front end. BTW, the GMC pickup had damage very similar to the Ranger in this thread. I had a $22k repair estimate, for the front and rear damage to my car. Geico totaled my car and cut me a check for @ $30,500. At first, I was surprised they totaled it that quickly, until somebody explained to me that my Mustang had a wholesale value @ $13.5k. So basically, any damage over $17k would have probably totaled out my Mustang.

Well you said yourself your primary employment is not an accident investigator... Sooo...
I've seen crazier wrecks during my two years as an EMT/FF in Texas (things that looked like a fender bender that led to a JP being brought out for a death report...

My car was not slammed into the vehicle in front of me because when I was at a dead stop I had at-least 2-3 car lengths in front of me (never caused a wreck in my life operating everything up to an M1128 stryker..) as did the driver in front of me in relation to the vehicle that had become disabled. My frame has yet to be inspected by someone qualified to do so so I am taking it into my local Ford dealer today that has always done good by me and they are going to check the alignment and let me know what they think as far as the two visible pinches in my frame and inspect for further damage.

The lady that hit me was probably on her phone and driving... I don't really care since we have good insurance and everyone walked away. I am positive when I exited we were going 55-60 so therefore my estimate of 55-60 came from that. I was more-so focused on the unfolding situation two cars ahead of me and the escalade that was seemingly not stopping was freeking me out.

The escalade took it 10 times worse than the ranger. Sorry for not taking pics. When the super hot escalade queen got out of her car and said she just wanted to check on her baby I kinda just didn't care to be up in her space. She was respectful and gave me a good drivers license and up to date insurance card. Coulda been 1000 times worse getting hit by a beater driven by a dead beat. Don't believe me thats fine :)

ETA her airbags did not pop but I was surprised to see her drive away after we exchanged info.

Get a DASHCAM with GPS and Impact Sensors! You'll have Proof of speed and location if this unfortunately ever happens again! Impact sensors record image and data at time of impact. Rear facing and Front facing cameras a must these days!

I would be all about that, but I haven't seen anything with positive enough reviews on image quality and durability to date to encourage me to buy a unit sadly :(

Well, I'd suggest the Thinkware Q800 Pro. I got the Ranger 2 camera Dashcam kit from Ford Accessories and upgraded from the Thinkware Dashcam that came with it to the Thinkware Q800 Pro front and Rear camera kit..
Top quality image front and rear along with GPS. https://us.thinkware.com/q800pro/

But in reality, having anything is better than nothing.
