Smokey and the Bandit is the same. You can see the same the thing happen there too when he jumps the bridge and lands the whole front end it crumpled. There's another scene where he comes out of a drainage ditch, catches some air onto the highway and if you look closely the windshield cracks but the next scene when the chase continues it's perfect.

They would take it to Cooter's Garage after each take to repair it......
Either that or "plastic" fenders.....
(Looked it up.....300 to 325 Chargers were destroyed or damaged in the shows run....more than one per episode....)

About 40 minute drive from me in Luray is Cooter's Place. Every once in a while they will have some kind of event and there will be tons of General Lees.

One operator at the nuke I retired from and his son actually bought one of the General Lee Chargers off the set. It had a 383 and a bad rod knock although I couldn’t imagine why. They pulled the engine down and went through it. They made it driveable and left all the dirt and everything just as it left the set. They were never allowed to say what they paid for it. Some were actually four wheel drive.

Speaking of Air Wolf. One of the scenes of that, I think it was season 3.
String and Dom were getting Air Wolf a midair refueling and the pilot of the tanker aircraft asked if they needed anything else. And Dom said, "oh sure, you can check the oil and clean the windshield please." Still makes me laugh.
