Yeah, they had to pull the pan to do the flush, or so they told me, and replaced the filter at that time. I read an article that said “not” to flush high mileage automatic transmissions.
There's plenty of FUD out there about it. Depends on how the 'flush' is done. Most people shoot their shot at maintenance when they're already down the path of having trans issues, have the flush done, and then something happens. Well, it was probably going to happen anyways, so the 'flush' gets blamed.

If you're maintaining like you should have.....

And keep in mind, 'like you should have' in regards to a 10X transmission (I use this to cover all 10R's and GM 10L's) is NOT every 150k. Not if you want to keep your truck, and not if you want the best life out of the transmission. Drain and fill every 30K minimum.

...then a 'flush' will be no problem.

If you're more on the side of having longer changes, then simply draining, or vacuuming and refilling the trans is a much more gentle and 'safer' way to go.

Nate from NextGen does a fantastic job explaining.

Just talked to my service guy, he said drain and fill at this mileage. She goes in Thursday. Did you see my maintenance list above?
I’m at 150k and the flush was done at 95k.

I finally had time to sit down and watch his whole video and I thank you for posting. Two takeaways I think I got is;
1-I’m now leaning towards having them pull the pan and doing filter plus fluid change but no flush. This will get all the crud out of the pan that a simple drain and fill may not get.
2-When my transmission goes, I want him or one of his transmissions in my truck.
My son had the transmission in his beautiful Tahoe go out so bad that it almost didn’t want to pull itself up onto the trailer to haul it to the transmission shop. And even after we got it there, it took them three different transmissions to FINALLY get one that lasted more that two months before the cheap junk torque converters they were using ate up the whole unit.
My Ranger goes in Thursday barring any nasty weather in these parts. My new truck buying days are over so I gotta make this one last.
I know nuclear reactor parts and ship propulsion parts but nothing about transmission parts except that the old 727 was a beast.
What you think about pan pull and filter change?
I know they did drive and check and drive and check numerous times on the flush and when I had the truck in for drive shaft replacement in December, I made them check the level and it was still exactly on FULL just where they left it.
Thanks again for the video.

I never think pulling the pan and swapping the filter is a bad idea.

I wouldn't do it every 10,000 miles, but you've got enough miles on yours that it won't be a bad thing.

--Edit--

Just make sure you use a real Motorcraft filter and not some other brand.

And spend the $2 to replace the rubber seal that Ford is too cheap to ship with the replacement filters.

Very well and thank you again. I will mention that to my service advisor.

That’s my son’s Ram HD snow plow edition with the bad ass 6.4. He pulls a 38 foot camper with it like nothing is attached back there. People on his camping site said you can’t pull that with a gas engine, you need a diesel. NOT…….

Lots of people are so stuck in their ways they won't ever change.

There are a few on here that pull 26' trailers with Rangers and move along just fine. The Ranger has a fantastic powertrain.

If Ford would have brought the Hybrid Ranger here I'd still be in one, but they won't, so I eventually went to the F150 for the onboard generator option.

I drove that thing about 40 miles last week to get new tires put on it. That truck will literally light the tires. It will get to 80 so quick it scared me. I made a right turn at a light and hit it a little an it actually went sideways. He had Discount Tire put Coopers on it.
