I currently have a 2020 Ford Ranger XLT FX4 that has 60,000 miles on it and the dealer is wanting me to get some service done and I’m trying to figure out what actually needs done at this mileage. My current driving conditions as far as temp and weather is central texas. I drive mainly city with occasional highway for trips. I have been keepeing up with my oil changes but I’ve only owned the vehicle since it was at 42K without much knowledge of service prior.

If it was me I would do the Brake, Transmission, and Transfer case. I know they don't call for the transmission until 150k, but there is no way I'm leaving the fluid in that long. The others I don't know the change interval but would probably due them at 100k

I will strongly second the transmission fluid as several rangers left ford without being filled to the proper level leading to issues later. as far as what the dealers say i would compare with what ford says in the owners manual.

Rear diff fluid seems to be the right choice at this time. @AzScorpion and a couple others have reported it was needed when they did it. If you’re not having performance issues, throwing codes, or having shifting problems, I’m not convinced those other items are needed - check the Ford recommended intervals for those items and be guided by that - Ford tested the bejeezuz out of those components to come up with those numbers.

Dealers are motivated by making money on service - the engineers and techs at Ford simply want your truck to last as long as possible.

Sounds like a good idea to me.

Also if you haven't done so open your owner's manual and read the maintenance section. It will help you out

o_Oo_O$187 for each diff? holy freaking rip off! if we lived close enough I'd do it for $75 a piece if you can't handle it.

remove fill plug
remove drain plug
drain junk out
replace drain plug with fresh sealer
fill with proper lube
replace fill plug with fresh sealer

15 minutes taking your time. I did mine with the first oil change and the crap that came out was bad. it was black as night and had a nice metallic shimmer and that was 4000 miles. Can't imagine what it looks like at 60,000 miles

FYI it's the same process for the transfer case

Save about $500 doing it yourself.........absolutely!
I did it in under an hour taking my time not to spill lol...loosen upper cap first then drain from lower plug...tape seal same plug after cleaning threads and back it goes...fill from upper till it overflows and plug...can't get any simpler than that...

Those prices on the diff service an xfer case are crazy high. The coolant an trans prices seem more in line. I did the rear diff at like 18K an it was pretty dirty. I haven't done the front or xfer case since I have only driven in 4 WD a total of probably 30 miles.

I might change the filter an what fluid the pan holds myself. I wouldn't wait until 150K to do anything but changing what's in the pan an the filter every 40K or so might be good.
