No, it's not the same. Ours is the "emissions special" blends, explicitly made to meet the California Air Resources Board's specifications.

California gas tax + sales tax comes to 90¢/gal. Colorado is 22¢ w/no sales tax. California gas is "special."

I remember when big oil in the state bull-shitted the Cali environmentalists into believing that what was once toxic waste, was now magically an environmental boon. MTBE was, and always has been considered toxic waste. It destroyed diesel and gasoline engine fuel systems, and because it's hydrophilic, it attracts water in gas tanks (just like ethanol) and it's nearly impossible to separate from water, causing ground water contamination. What used to be pristine alpine lakes, became polluted with MTBE. Then the Sierra Club bought into the ethanol BS, reducing our gas mileage by up to 30%, making us burn more gas per mile driven, and ultimately creating more pollution.

My Ranger is rated for 87 octane. I don't think I would put 85 octane in it for any price?
