When my dad and I rebuilt the transmission on the Camry I had in high school, I got to see that parking pawl and never trusted them since. It was a handy habit, as my last truck was a stick shift, so I never had to walk out with it in a new parking spot than I left it in.
That’s good to see, a lot of load is put on it

only if your trans was replaced with a manufactured unit.
Also, this is only if you have less than 8000 miles on your 4-8 year old transmission.
Ford is recalling approximately 34,481 10R80 remanufactured automatic transmissions due to a potential failure to hold the park position. The recall is for these transmissions when used as service parts in 2017-2021 Ford and Lincoln vehicles, as the T10 bearing may have been incorrectly installed, preventing the transmission from locking into park.
😬 so the first owners who had theirs replaced (almost 35 thousand) might need yet another transmission. It could certainly sour someone on the brand...

Regarding the odd "8000 miles" thing, this other article has a little more info:

https://www.carcomplaints.com/news/...ransmission-recall-missing-t10-bearings.shtml

Specifically:

The problem was discovered in July when a 2019 Ford Mustang customer complained the car would not stay in PARK. Over the next months engineers determined the PARK problem always manifested before the vehicles had 8,000 miles.

It sounds like, if you got a remanufactured transmission, and you have put more than 8,000 miles on said transmission, and your truck still shifts into Park without any problems and has not thrown any related codes, you are probably in the clear and no action required.

The full recall notice is here: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2025/RCAK-25E070-7290.pdf . It says that if your reman transmission has 8,000 or fewer miles, you can take it to the dealer for an inspection. Reading between the lines: if you have more than 8,000 miles with no symptoms, you are in the clear (or another reading: on your own if you do end up having a park problem later ;-))
